  • Question
How do I stop the pain from cramping?
    Community Answer
Lay down on your back in sit-up position, put your hands on your head and breathe in through your nose, out through your mouth. Eventually you'll stop getting them, but the first couple of times you'll get them. If you get a cramp, it's best to do as stated above, but if your muscles just hurt or your throat burns its best to not sit down, but to try to stand or walk slowly.
  • Question
What do you do if you're tired, but you want to keep running?
    Community Answer
Keep going for as long as you can, then gradually bring your pace down to a speed-walk until you recover enough energy to start running again.
  • Question
Should I sprint at the start of the race to get a head start?
    Community Answer
If you do, be careful of going over the limit and tiring yourself out of the race. Pace yourself to build up to a faster sprint toward the end.
  • Question
I'm taking the Pacers Test tomorrow, and I'm really not that good. How can I improve?
    Community Answer
When you feel like you're getting tired think about reaching your higher goal. Make sure you go slower at the start and gradually build up your pace.
  • Question
What is the proper way to do a sprinter's hands?
    Community Answer
Don't spread your fingers apart but at the same time don't have them clenched. You want them together but you want them to be relaxed and loose.
  • Question
What can I do to run longer distances?
    Community Answer
You will have to work your way up. Add a quarter-mile each time you run. Gradually you will run longer and longer distances.
  • Question
Do I breath in through my nose and out my mouth or the other way around?
    Community Answer
Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. This breathing pattern will force you to run slower and pace yourself, allowing you to run longer and farther before you get tired.
  • Question
How many weeks do I need to do this?
    Community Answer
Keep up the process until you are satisfied with the results. Continue to try to push yourself so you don't lose the work you already put in.
  • Question
What should I do to run longer distances faster than other people?
    Community Answer
Try taking longer strides. Pace yourself so that you don't burn out early in the race. Of course, running longer miles consistently will also make you a stronger long-distance runner.
  • Question
How can I perform a tactical sprint?
    Community Answer
Pace yourself and make a rhythm for your breathing (e.g. two steps per breath). Breathe through your nose or your mouth will get dry. Avoid drinking water until after or halfway through your run or you'll get a stitch. Have a regular exercise schedule. Test your stamina endurance when training for these events. Eat right and take care of your body.
  • Question
What if I can only run for 2 minutes? I work a very physically demanding job and I have severe pain around my shins! What can I do?
    Community Answer
That sounds like a lot! You could try wearing braces on your shins, but you might just be hitting your limit and there's nothing wrong with that. If you're just trying to stay fit, you could just stick to walking and/or other exercises, at least while you continue to work a demanding job.
  • Question
Why does my hip hurts when I run two minutes?

  • Question
What advice do you have for someone who is going to run a mile for a fitness test?
    Community Answer
Just keep yourself paced, and don't stress about it. Everything will be okay.
  • Question
What if I'm taking the pacer test and want to improve endurance, but relatively fast?
    Community Answer
Learn the timing of the buzzer. It becomes a lot easier to run the pacer if you learn to pace yourself to use the time to your limit than to sprint, wait for ten seconds, sprint, and continue to do this. Although this is cutting it close, it will help you in the long run. Breathe deeply. There is nothing worse than getting to the 56th pacer and getting that major side cramp that doesn't go away until the 80th. But you've probably given up at 75. Breathing deeply will help with this a lot. Use non athletic people to use your advantage. When they get out, have them get you water.
  • Question
Is it possible to run 100 miles in seven days, such as run 15 miles every day, and then 20 on the last?
    Community Answer
That depends on how much you can run. If you can only run 5 miles a day it is unrealistic. Also, to get 20 miles in on the last day, you would have to start building up your endurance during the other 6 says. I would say that it is too much, given you only have seven days. But, it all depends on how long you can run.
