Soap and water is perfectly fine. You can put it in an ultrasonic cleaner, like you would any other type of jewelry, and that should clean up. If it's a high quality piece of jewelry, the finish on it is going to be such a high finish that it should be well protected. And just basic cleaning is all you'll need to do.
  • Question
If my piercing has two balls on it, which one do I unscrew?
    Community Answer
It depends on the exact ring you have and how it was put in. If you can't figure it out by testing each ball, go back to your piercer and ask them for help.

  • Question
I have a hoop and I couldn't get the ball on. I went to a professional, but she just told me to get pliers and close it up. Now my lip is swollen and cant get the hoop out. What do I do? It's painful.

I would recommend going to see a doctor as soon as possible. Infection can set in very quickly, so make sure to avoid putting anything like makeup or face cream on the area. To reduce swelling temporarily, lightly apply ice. If you can't be seen by your doctor the day of, go to the emergency room. Do not go back to the piercer who told you to use the pliers, and do not recommend them to friends.
  • Question
Is it okay to clean my lip ring with mouthwash?

Rinse your mouth with non-alcoholic mouthwash after eating or drinking anything stronger than water. Clean the outside of your piercing with a saline solution.
  • Question
Do you have any suggestions for undoing a hoop without going to a professional?

It depends what kind of ring it is, if it's a segment ring, then it's best to go to your piercer as they are difficult to remove by yourself. But if you plan on changing your jewelry often, it would be a good idea to invest in a pair of ring opening pliers which can be found on eBay, Amazon and other online stores. To use it you place it in the hoop and open then the segment should just come right off.
  • Question
Can I take my vertical labret out to clean it 2 weeks after getting it pierced?
    Community Answer
No, it should not be taken out until the time that the piercer says is okay. Otherwise, you will risk it closing over on you. Follow the directions for care that your piercer gave you.
