  • Question
I am getting a white film around my glasses. Cleaning my glasses with white vinegar did not help. We do have a water softening system in our home, and that should be helping. What is the problem?
    Community Answer
Your glasses are getting slowly sanded by the powder in your dishwasher. There is nothing you can do to fix it. Using a liquid dishwasher detergent can slow the process, but if you don't want it to happen you have to wash the glasses by hand.
  • Question
What do I do if I put table salt in my new dishwasher?
    Community Answer
Get as much of it out of the reservoir and clean up what you can; if there is some left, it will not hurt your washer. Table salt will dissolve quicker than dishwasher salt as it is finer. Table salt may not soften your water; however, in small amounts it won't hurt your dishwasher. Once you clear as much of the salt as you can, run a rinse cycle. The salt should be all gone, and you can now add dishwasher salt.
  • Question
Does my dishwasher reservoir need water at all times?
    Community Answer
It depends how old and how sturdy you dishwasher is. If it's quite old and does frequently need checking up on, then yes. If not, then no.
  • Question
What would happen if I were to pour dishwasher detergent instead of dishwasher salt into a Bosch dishwasher?
    Bill
    Community Answer
Don't. You'll end up with a kitchen full of foam, a voided warranty and possibly a ruined dishwasher. Dishwashers use a mixture of alkaline salts & enzymes to clean, whereas detergent relies on surfactants to breakdown grease.
  • Question
I have no salt indicator on my dishwasher. Advice?
    Bill
    Community Answer
Unless you're in an area with hard water, don't worry. Most salt reservoirs require you to check manually.
  • Question
Would I be able to use water softener salt as an alternative choice?
    Bill
    Community Answer
Possibly. You're best to check the manual or contact your manufacturer to be certain.
  • Question
Why is the salt in the dishwasher not being used even though I am in a hard water area?
    Bill
    Community Answer
The machine will use what it needs. Remember that most modern machines use less than 15l to do a wash, so it is most likely doing its job, just at a rate you won't notice over a short period of time.
  • Question
My dishwasher is not consuming the salt, and my indicator light says to refill salt. Is the salt caking or clogging? How to fix?
    Jennifer Enoy - Georgopoulos
    Community Answer
It is clogging. To fix it, pour a solution of baking soda and vinegar down the basket at the bottom of your dishwasher. After letting it settle for 10-15 minutes, pour a pot of boiling hot water down the basket and see if that clears the clog.
  • Question
How do I determine how much dishwasher salt I need?
    Kalasahi
    Community Answer
In terms of working out how much dishwasher salt your machine needs, ensure you check the packaging to find out how much salt you will need. It may help to use a measuring cup and a funnel to both measure out and supply the salt to your dishwasher.
  • Question
My Samsung dishwasher does not use the salt in the dispenser. The dispenser remains full of salt. How can I fix it myself?
    Crazzyy Dys-fun-stional Family Gun_Dun
    Community Answer
Try to pour liquid to dissolve the salt and it will soften up to where it flushes it out with water.
  • Question
Ive had my Finish dishwasher salt for several years. Does dishwasher salt have an expiry date?
    Bridget Mauro
    Community Answer
Almost everything (aside from dishwasher and laundry detergent) lasts up to two years, but check the packaging for a date or call the manufacturer, who should be able to tell you how old your product is based on the serial numbers stamped on the packaging.
  • Question
How do I get rid of excess dishwasher salt?
    Zero waste hero
    Community Answer
Scrape it off and leave it in the dishwasher. When you will launch the next cycle, it will go away when everything gets washed. Otherwise, launch an empty cycle, that way you will be totally sure no harm will be done. All in all, the extra salt is not a problem.
  • Question
I left the reservoir cap open by accident, ran a cycle and 5 minutes later I noticed the 'Salt' light came on. Immediately stopped, tightened the cap, drained and ran again. Would this damage the machine?
    Community Answer
No, not if you did this just once. And not if it wasn't through the whole cycle. But you could if you kept doing it.
  • Question
Is it necessary to rinse prior to washing in a dishwasher?
    Community Answer
In general, it is not necessary to rinse, as modern dishwashers are designed to handle food particles and debris. Most dishwashers have filters and powerful jets of water that are capable of removing food residues during the wash cycle. However, excessive or dried food should be scraped or rinsed off.
  • Question
The dishwasher salt is not dissolving. Just get slightly damp crystals. What's wrong?
    Abdul Jamil
    Community Answer
Possible reasons: (1) If your water is already soft, the salt may not dissolve completely because there is less need for it. You may not require dishwasher salt at all. (2) Check to see if there are any clogs in the salt dispenser or the water softening unit in your dishwasher. (3) Some dishwasher models require specific types or brands of salt, so verify that you are using the recommended salt for your appliance. (4) Make sure your dishwasher is loaded correctly, allowing water and salt to circulate freely during the wash cycle. If the salt problem persists, consult the user manual or contact the manufacturer's customer support for further guidance. They will be able to troubleshoot the problem based on your dishwasher model.
  • Question
Can I put in dishwasher salt and wash dishes at the same time?
    Abdul Jamil
    Community Answer
No, dishwasher salt is not intended to be used during the regular dishwashing cycle. Dishwasher salt is specifically designed to regenerate the ion exchange resin in water-softening units within the dishwasher. Its purpose is to remove mineral ions, such as calcium and magnesium, from the water to prevent lime-scale buildup and enhance the dishwasher's performance. During the normal dishwashing cycle, the dishwasher uses detergent to clean the dishes and does not require the addition of dishwasher salt. The salt is typically added to a separate compartment or reservoir within the dishwasher, specifically designated for the water-softening process. Follow the manufacturer's instructions and guidelines for your specific dishwasher model. Adding dishwasher salt to the wrong compartment or using it during a regular dishwashing cycle could potentially damage the dishwasher or result in poor cleaning performance. Consult the user manual for complete instructions and guidance.
