How do I start a letter explaining that I am representing my husband in his appeal, as he can't read or write?

Alternately, you can shorten this to, "I am writing to appeal the decision regarding...." and end the letter by writing your name, signing your name below that, then writing below that, "Wife of John Doe." I do not feel it is important to write or say, "My husband cannot read or write." If he cannot sign his own name, you will need a notary public to witness the signing of his "X."
