How does an iPhone track steps?

PDF download Download Article
  1. As long as you have your iPhone in your hand, pocket, or bag, it will be able to detect your steps with your movement. Generally, the step count is mostly accurate if you're only using your iPhone. However, if you need a more precise step counter, you may want to invest in an Apple Watch or fitness watch dedicated to tracking steps and distance.
