This wikiHow teaches you how to capture an image of everything that's on your iPhone's screen. The steps to take a screenshot are a bit different depending on your model of iPhone, but it always involves pressing two buttons at the same time. If you are unable to use the buttons on your iPhone for any reason, you can use an accessibility feature called AssistiveTouch to capture a screenshot with one finger.

If Your iPhone Has Face ID

  1. When screenshotting, everything on your screen at the time of the screenshot be captured in the image.
    • Use this method if your iPhone does not have a round Home button below the screen.
  2. The Volume Up button is on the left side of the phone, and the Side button is on the right side. When you release your fingers from the buttons, the screen will briefly flash white. [1]

  3. After capturing the screenshot, a small version of it will appear in the bottom-left corner, where it will remain for several seconds. If you tap this preview, it will open for editing in Markup.

If Your iPhone Has a Home Button

    • If you don't have a round button at the bottom of your iPhone's face, this method instead.
  2. If your iPhone is an iPhone 6 or later, the Lock button is on the right side of the phone. If it's an earlier model, the Lock button is on the top. When you release your fingers from the buttons, the screen will briefly flash white. [2]

If You Can't Use the Buttons on Your iPhone

      • If you missed the chance to edit your screenshot, you can still do so in the Photos app. Tap your screenshot, select Edit at the top, tap the three dots at the top, and then choose Markup to open the editor.
      • If you don't want to use AssistiveTouch anymore, you can return to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > AssistiveTouch and tap the switch to turn it off.
