I have been experiencing this peculiar talk page message bug as of late where I will get email notifications of new messages on my talk page, but when I go to check these messages, they do not exist whatsoever. For example, I recently got this message from Anna:
However, when I go to my talk page history, I see no log from Anna. It’s also important mentioning that this has happened with a few other talk page messages. I thought it was weird, but didn’t bother mentioning it thinking it was a one-off glitch. This does not appear to be going away though, so I figure I’d mention it here. This is all I see for my talk page history (I have probably gotten 3 or so emails within the past couple days with new talk page messages, but none are showing up):
If I go to Anna’s contributions, it shows no history of her ever leaving a message on my talk page. It’s almost as if these “ghost” messages don’t exist at all for me. I have tried all your basic bug troubleshooting steps- logging out and back in again, clearing cache and cookies, etc… all to no avail. I can’t imagine that this is a widespread issue due to the lack of reports, but I’m not sure what’s going on here with me.

Ah, sorry for the confusing hunt you had there! And thanks for troubleshooting through the various possibilities.
This is basically my fault, sorry! I blacklisted a particular phrase to stop a persistent troll from continuing the pattern he’d been using to vandalize, but I didn’t realize he’d left some messages in the meantime, too. Since he’s gone now, I think we can safely just remove the phrase from the blacklist - I’ll do that now! But if you see this happening again, know that it’s likely from a blacklisted phrase that’s already on your talk page… If you blank your talk page and start fresh (or find and remove the particular phrase), it should be ok!
