Have you ever seen a chain of connected X posts from one user and wondered, "How did they do that?" If so, this is the article for you! That chain of tweets is known as a "thread," and it's an X (formerly known as Twitter) feature that allows you to easily reply to your own tweets to add more information, continue a thought, or get around the 280 character limit . Keep reading to learn more.
Quick Steps
- Start writing a new post on X.
- Click or tap the + button at the bottom of the window.
- Write your next post in the thread.
- Add as many posts as you want by clicking or tapping + .
- Post the thread.
Steps

Compose a new post. Click on the Post button in the sidebar, or click into the textbox near the top of the screen. In the X app, tap on the blue + icon, which you can see at the bottom of the screen.
- If you're not logged into X , you'll need to do that before you can post.

Write your post. Write something under 280 characters in the What's happening? field. Read How to Write a Good Tweet for tips on what to say.
- If you go over the character limit, the text that is over the limit will be highlighted in red.

Add another post. Click or tap the + button near the bottom of the post window and write your next post. You can only see this button if you've already written something in the post field.
- To add additional posts to the thread, click or tap the + button again.

Post your thread. When you have finished, click on the Post all button at the bottom of the post window to post your thread on X. On mobile, tap the Post button in the upper-right corner.
