  • Question
What if the person continues to try to interact with you even though you've made it clear that you don't want to talk to them?
    Community Answer
This clearly means that the person is not mature enough to respect your decision. You should distance yourself from that person. If they can't respect your wishes then they shouldn't have a place in your life.
  • Question
I've had people pull out my earbuds and grab my phone (cracking it quite badly). How can I make people stay away from me? I've tried everything and nothing seems to work.
    Community Answer
Let them know that you do not like when they do that. If they continue to damage your items tell them firmly they have to pay for it. Also keep your earbuds tucked under your shirt so they can't pull them, and keep your phone tucked securely in a pocket.
  • Question
What if people stare at me all the time and make me lose my confidence?
    Community Answer
Are people really staring at you, or this all in your mind? If they're really staring, maybe they're just admiring you, thinking you're pretty/handsome/etc. Either way, don't let other people get to you. You're great just the way you are and you don't need anyone else's opinion or approval. Just keep telling yourself this.
  • Question
What if I want to be left alone at school, but I have "friends" who wont leave me alone?
    Community Answer
If you feel like being alone, just tell them you need space.
  • Question
What if everybody except my friends ignores me unless they need something? They aren't willing to be friends with me, but are willing to use me.
    Community Answer
Have a talk with them about how this is making you feel, or just stop giving them what they want/need. They might view you as someone who is easy to take advantage of. If you stand up for yourself, things will probably change.
  • Question
Somebody at school wont leave me alone no matter how many times I tell him to go away. What should I do about that? He's stalking me.

You don't stop until the other person stops. It starts with non-verbal signs that you don't really appreciate his attention. Then you verbally and kindly tell him. Then verbally again, but more firmly. After that, it really is time to get some sort of authority involved: a parent, teacher, counselor, even the police. If it takes the Supreme Court to get that message across, then that's what you have to do. Talk to this person with a teacher present, and clearly state that he is stalking you. Let him know the consequences if he still keeps it up: an official complaint, if necessary, even with the police involved.
  • Question
I have to meet a relative's fiance whom I have never met at their wedding for the first time. I don't really like the person, let alone interacting. Solution?
    Olivia Hatcher
    Community Answer
If the wedding is big, there should be plenty of places to hide. If you're someone who is familiar with avoiding interaction, maybe stay away from the center of the room. However much of a pain it might be to have to meet a new person, it might just be better to get it out of the way by introducing yourself briefly and excusing yourself after a few minutes rather than trying to hide and coming off as rude.
  • Question
What if my friend has been kind of bossy lately, and won't leave me alone? I don't want to be rude because we have been friends since preschool.
    Community Answer
Just voice your complaints in a calm, polite manner. Say something like, "I feel like you're always bossing me around lately. I need you to give me a little space and let me make my own choices." She may not even be aware of the problem. If she continues behaving this way, tell her that you need some time apart.
  • Question
What if people around me believe they are my friends and won't leave me alone, and I'm too insecure to tell them I don't like being around them at all?
    Community Answer
Try to find new friends and spend your time with them instead. If you can't do this, just make excuses. If they ask you to hang out, tell them you already plans. If you see them at school, just say, "I have to get to class!" They'll get the message eventually.
  • Question
How can I get people at school to stop saying: "Oh are you ok?" or "You look depressed"?
    Community Answer
Fake it around them, put on a happy face and smile. Or start asking them to stop asking you such questions. Say something like: "I always look this way so why do you keep asking me? I've told you I am fine and I mean it!".
  • Question
Is it okay to just be straightforward and tell people I don't want to talk to them?
    Community Answer
If you're polite about it, you can do this. Try saying something like, "Sorry, I don't feel like talking right now." This way you're not telling them you don't want to talk to them specifically, just that you don't want to talk.
  • Question
I don't want to talk to a family member. what should I do?
    Community Answer
If they are leaving you alone, that's that. If they are persistent, always talking to you, just tell them you are certainly not speaking to them, then just continue to ignore them.
  • Question
How do I avoid talking to my classmates? They just don't like my presence, they treat me like I'm an alien.
    Community Answer
To avoid wanting to talk to them, focus on your schoolwork, the lecture during class, etc. However, you shouldn't worry about what your classmates think of you if you've done nothing wrong. It sounds like they're not very nice. If you're having trouble making friends, try talking to a teacher or counselor about this.
