Break the ice by asking them about something related to what you're currently doing. Then, listen closely to what they say and ask more questions to keep the conversation going.
  • Question
Is it normal to get nervous talking to a cute girl?
    Community Answer
Of course. Remember that she is probably nervous too. Be yourself and if she doesn't care or like you, find another girl.
  • Question
How can I have a good conversation with someone on the phone that I don't know?
    Community Answer
Ask the person about himself. Most people like to talk about themselves.
  • Question
How do I chat with a person to keep them interested in me?
    Community Answer
Make sure to be responsive in a positive way and to smile often. Don't over-do it or it won't seem genuine. Ask the other person plenty of questions about herself and take interest in the answers: if you dominate too much, you'll lose her.
  • Question
I have a problem talking with people. I'm great at chatting with adults, but I can't chat with people that are my age group, and I always initiate conversations. What can I do?
    Community Answer
As your peers open-ended questions (ones that require more than a yes or no answer), such as, "What did you eat for breakfast?" or "What sports do you like?"
  • Question
I have a crush on a guy who is in my friendship group, but we aren't really close. How do I get closer to him?
    Community Answer
Start taking to him more alone. Maybe start messaging him and see how it goes from there.
  • Question
How do I avoid having no one to talk with at school breaks?
    Community Answer
Get to know lots of people! The more people you know the more people you'll have to talk to. Ask somebody a question about themselves and their interests. Find someone that is sitting alone and talk to them, they'll probably be grateful.
  • Question
What topics are suitable for meeting new friends?
    Community Answer
You can ask simple questions like what type of music they listen to. Be sure to ask questions that are open-ended (not limited to "yes" or "no" answers).
  • Question
How do I convince a girl to marry me when she lives in a different country and we usually chat on WhatsApp?
    Community Answer
It doesn't sound like you are in any position to propose. Proposals should always be done in person.
  • Question
How can I start good conversations with my girlfriend?
    Community Answer
Ask her to tell you about her day, ask her questions about what she tells you and take it from there.
  • Question
Why does my girlfriend go home when I ask to meet her?
    Community Answer
She might be nervous about what she looks like or maybe she's too shy. Try to talk to her on the phone more and see if she will video chat. Ask her out on a planned date instead of trying to meet up at the last minute.
  • Question
What if I don't know what's "in" these days?
    Community Answer
Ask the person about him/herself. People like to talk about themselves, so try starting from there and building a conversation up.
  • Question
I'm really shy and I don't even have friends. How can I speak, possibly even flirt, with my crush if I don't have the backup?
    Community Answer
Befriend your crush first by asking about hobbies, likes, what they look for in a significant other, and if they know anyone who might like to be your friend. Find something to laugh about to show them you have a great sense of humor!
  • Question
I have a big crush on a girl I hardly speak to. She said yes to a bully who asked her to a dance. How do I get her to notice me?
    Community Answer
Don't be desperate, but get her attention. Try not to act too disappointed toward her, because then she'll think that you don't even want to be friends.
  • Question
I'm going to spend time with my neighbor and explore with her. How do I keep conversations going along the way during the expanded time we hang out together?
    AllyJr.
    Community Answer
Ask her about her life and how's she has been. If you run out of topics, you can talk about your own experiences and then the conversation will continue for a while more.
  • Question
What can two girls chat about?
    Community Answer
Anything! Just find a common interest, whether it's makeup, Star Wars, superheroes, or dresses! You can talk about anything, especially crushes!
  • Question
I talk to my girlfriend frequently throughout the day, but sometimes I think I've gotten annoying or boring. How do I start a good conversation with her without her getting annoyed/bored?
    Community Answer
I have a long distance boyfriend and we talk a lot. To avoid getting bored we do random questions or play the game "Don't get me started." Just check Tumblr, it has pretty good ones.
  • Question
What kind of questions can I ask a girl to make her think I'm about to ask her out?
    Amber
    Community Answer
Ask her what she's doing this weekend or ask if she's busy. This will seem like an invitation, and she'll be ready if you do ask her out.
  • Question
What do I do if my conversation attempts get shut down immediately?
    Community Answer
It may be time to rethink how you engage conversations or think on those encounters and learn from them. If someone seems busy, stay away. The best way is to just casually strike up a conversation about what’s going on or what you can relate to. School, the setting, or really anything that can be simply answered. Big or obscure questions/topics (out of nowhere) can make you seem weird or annoyingly intrusive. The biggest thing, though, is to not let the failures get to you. Keep at it.
  • Question
How can I have a civil conversation with someone I don't like?
    Community Answer
Smile. Ask them how their day is going, etc. Look them in the eye, and really listen. Respond nicely to what they tell you. Treat them as you would want to be treated.
  • Question
How do I start a conversation on Whatsapp with a girl I just met around a week ago?
    Tom De Backer
    Top Answerer
Start with "Hey", then come back to something she mentioned before. For example, if she said "I couldn't go to training because my brother was ill", ask her how her brother is and if she's been able to catch up the training. Listen more than you talk. Give her some of your private information as well, like how you feel or what you think. In all, keep it simple, for now, avoid deep philosophical conversations, give it time to grow. Finally, try to keep the conversation short, but let her know you'd like to talk to her some more soon.
  • Question
What can I do to improve my conversation skills, especially with girls?
    Community Answer
Don't sound awkward or too nervous. Pick popular subjects and pay attention to her reaction and reply/question.
  • Question
I have a girlfriend but I don't have any conversations with her. What must I do?
    Community Answer
Look for common interest. or try being just playful. Talking and communicating is an important part of any relationship.
  • Question
How do I prevent a girl from putting me in the friend zone?
    Community Answer
Tell her how you really feel. Be totally honest. If she has romantic feelings for you, she will tell you. If she doesn't, and she just wants to be friends, there's nothing you can do about that.
  • Question
Me and my girl friend have been together almost a month now, and we are running out of things to talk about. What do I do?
    Community Answer
This is usually the make it or break it period of dating because the only focus between you two is you two. This can be bad if all you're doing is just being together and not doing anything. Start participating in activities together that you both enjoy, if you can find some (if you can't, that's probably not a good sign). Spend time in a group with other friends, as well, so there's less pressure on the two of you to generate all the conversation.
  • Question
How can I come up with good conversation topics with someone I have been distant with?
    Jourdan Brooks
    Community Answer
Good conversation topics could be talking about updates in your lives, some interests you share, or current events. Avoid awkward topics like the weather.
  • Question
I have a crush on a boy who lives next door. We see each other at the bus stop every day, but I'm too scared to work up the nerve to talk to him because there are other people at the bus stop. Any advice?
    Tom De Backer
    Top Answerer
It's OK, we all feel this way. At some point your desire to start something will win against your fear, so trust yourself that when that happens, you will talk to him. Also, your first conversation doesn't have to be all romantic and in-depth and all about your deepest feelings. "Hi" is more than enough. Remember that until you talk to him, you don't really know if he's the guy you might dream him to be. Say hi, listen to him, keep the conversation short. After all, if you don't say hi, how will he ever get to know you, let alone develop feelings for you?
  • Question
I find that I'm really good at having conversations with people I was introduced to through a friend, but when it comes to meeting people on my own it's like the conversation doesn't go anywhere. Any advice?
    Tom De Backer
    Top Answerer
Imagine two large cans: one is filled with water, another with milk, and you don't know which is which. Other people are cans, and you are a spoon. When you meet, you're really saying "I am willing to spend some time churning things up to see if it becomes butter". My point is, it takes time to figure out whether the energy you put into a conversation will go somewhere. Some people you can become friends with, others you can't, but people don't have this information written on their foreheads. So keep having small conversations with many people. Some will go places, most will not, and that's OK.
  • Question
How do I keep someone interested in chatting with me through instant messaging?
    Tom De Backer
    Top Answerer
One way is to stop talking. A slice of bread has a certain amount of Nutella that is just perfect: not too much, not too little. But spread that amount over ten slices of bread, and you'll be left feeling dissatisfied. So instead of keeping the conversation going because it was going well, end it because it was going well. The other person will think "That was a great conversation!" instead of "It started great, but it went on and on and on." If you pull back, you give the other person a chance to contact you.
  • Question
How do I talk to my partner who isn’t my boyfriend but we are together exclusively but we can’t break up because that would mean we are boyfriend and girlfriend?
    Thapelo Moila
    Community Answer
Make your intentions clear with that person. You must be open with him on where you guys stand, whether relationship or friendship, it can even be a so-called "friends with benefits".
