You can go through and delete old emails that you no longer need, delete your spam folder, and delete the emails that have been sitting in your garbage can. If that still doesn't help enough, you can always create a second email address for some of your emails.

Before the latest Gmail update, I could hover over the sender and all the previous/earlier emails would show up. How do I easily find those 4-year-old emails now?

Go to the search bar at the top of Gmail and type in the person's email. Everything they've sent you should show up. If you are looking for more specific emails, there is an advanced search option available by clicking the down arrow on the right end of the search bar.

Start by looking at your Gmail history. If there was a login that was not you, you can click that it wasn't you. Then, on the sign in page, click forgot password. Hopefully, you set up a recovery email. If not, gmail will send you a code in text via cellphone to get you in. However, a hacker might have changed all or some of your recovery info. As soon as you get back in, change your recovery items immediately.

Presidents and CEOs of companies do not publish their phone numbers. The closest you can get (if they take phone calls, which Google does not do) is customer support, which is many layers below the top. Many companies do publish their mailing address, but letters rarely if ever get to the top.

Sync indicates more than 1 device involved in your account, e.g. such as Desktop, Laptop, iPad, iPhone, etc. I would look at those other devices and see if you can de-sync each. Try to sign into gmail after each change, to find the culprit.
