I was the same way at first. I loved the kawaii lifestyle, but I didn't want to scare my parents. I told them that I was interested in learning more about Japanese culture and maybe trying a bit of it out myself. I slowly brought more color into my room and got kawaii items, so you could always add more bright, kawaii styled things into your outfits and daily life so you don't sound crazy talking to your parents.

Can a person into horror games and creepy novels still like kawaii things? I’m a FNaF Fan and am concerned about my Foxy mask, FNaF collectible figures, and FNaF Plushies.
    Sequoia Robertson

Surprisingly, alt and edgy decor can look very appealing in a kawaii room. Try to tie things together if you can. For example, I separate my Miku Figurines from my Death Note figures because they have different aesthetics in my room. This may look better if you separate your FNAF things into one part of your room. Just a thought, and remember it's your room! You can decorate it however you would like!

  • Question
I really want a kawaii room, but I don’t know what to get or to ask (moving house in couple of months) I’m not exactly sure what is kawaii or not kawaii and need help. Although, this was very helpful.
    Sequoia Robertson
    Community Answer
Really anything based on anime is considered kawaii. Even though it isn't pastel, an MHA poster would be considered kawaii. Pastel colors and light greys/whites are the general color palette. The main things that make rooms kawaii is the colors and the decor. Decor should include posters, prints, plushies, figurines, and gamer gear. If you are really struggling to start off go on Amazon even if you don't plan on buying online and search "kawaii room decor." This will give you ideas. Or, sign up for a kawaii subscription box such as "SoKawaii."

Pull out a Rosemary and Jude and split the room directly in half! This will make it extra kawaii as it will display both of your styles. If you can, make your style over the top and highly decorated to make it pop. If splitting in half isn't practical, try and combine your style with theirs by finding kawaii things that match their room.

  • Question
I'm scared to ask my parents for kawaii things because I feel like they won't let me get those. How can I convince them?
    Sequoia Robertson
    Community Answer
Since there is nothing wrong with the kawaii aesthetic, don't be scared. It is simply a liking for anime, Sanrio, cartoons, and innocence! What would be wrong with that? If you are embarrassed to explain things like Sanrio, Pokemon, and Anime, just say that they are cartoons from Japan that you and your friends watch and that they are completely appropriate, because they are. Remember to transition slowly, as a sudden change can freak parents out. If you can, pay with your own money.
