  • Question
Do we have to have beer though?
    Shayna Innocenti
    Community Answer
You do not have to use beer for the pawns, or even use alcohol to play the game. Instead of beer, choose a simple drink that you and your friends enjoy. Just make it a beverage that can be consumed safely over the course of the game. For non-alcoholic ideas, you can use juice or milk.
  • Question
When a person re-enters the game, is the beer that they drink to get back in the game one of the pawns?
    Shayna Innocenti
    Community Answer
No, this is not typically one of the pawns, but if you and your friends want to play that way to speed the game up, then that is perfectly fine!
  • Question
If there is one last beer, and they take it. Can they chug it and take a drink from the king? What if they don't know an answer to a quote or similarity, what if there are more than one answer?
    Shayna Innocenti
    Community Answer
If there is one beer left and someone lands on a center space and takes it, then that person can choose to drink the entire beer on that turn. If that was the only pawn that player had left in their hands, they would have to wait until the next time they land on a center space to drink from the king. If a player does not know the answer to a quote, then that player cannot move forward on that turn. If there is more than one answer, then the player control at that time would decide whether or not to allow the alternate answer.
  • Question
I'm not old enough to drink. Can I use soda or another beverage instead of the liquor and beer?
    Community Answer
Sure. You can use whatever you want in True American. Just make sure to have one different drink for the middle
  • Question
Do I just drink when I want to, or is there a special time in the game that I should drink?
    Community Answer
You have to drink every time you move from one of the three 'mini games'. I've also read a variation that if someone yells "all cans belong in the junk yard", you finish your beer and throw the can in the junk yard. Just be careful, being stuck without a beer causes you to lose the game. You can also drink whenever you want during the game.
  • Question
I'm 13, is there a way I can play this without beer (say with m&m.)
    Shayna Innocenti
    Community Answer
You can definitely play this game without alcohol! Candy might be a bit difficult to manage because you will not land on the center space often enough to keep 1-3 pieces in your hands. It would probably work better with a gummy candy like taffy or gummy bears, so you can nibble at the pieces. But you can definitely play with beverages like milk or juice. Consider having chocolate milk or orange juice be the king, and then make the pawns glasses of plain milk or even water.
  • Question
How many spaces do I move when it is my turn in True American?
    Community Answer
One, unless you complete a quote, answer a things in common, or do the 1, 2, 3 number action.
  • Question
Are there alternatives to beer if I want to play True American without alcohol? I don't necessarily want candy or any kind of drink.
    Community Answer
Perhaps money or cards (with a king card) as prizes and first place is who gets the king, second is who had the largest amount of cards and each place gets some kind of prize. If the winner gets the most cards and the king card then they get first and second place prizes or they can choose to give it to someone.
  • Question
How many people can play True American?
    Community Answer
As many as you want, as long as you have enough room and space. It should typically be 4 or more but you can create teams of however many people you want, or leave them all on their own to fight depending on how much room you have!
  • Question
If there are five players, where does the fifth player start?
    Community Answer
Create a fifth path from the king for each additional player unless you have enough to have equal teams (if you have 3 teams of two aka six players you can make 3 paths from the king) and have double the alcohol (or whatever product) on each checkpoint.
  • Question
As I grab beer from the pawn lines, do I have to distribute it equally? Or do you have to take from the line associated with the zone I landed in?
    Community Answer
You have to take a beer (pawn) from the line corresponding to the zone you landed in.
  • Question
How can I move one space if I'm not the person in control? I understand you can count, find commonalities, or finish a quote, but are there other ways to move just one space?
    Umer Farooq
    Community Answer
To move 1 space, you can answer a trivia question correctly, complete a small task like naming a song, or finish a quote. You can also take a sip of your drink or utilize game elements like rolling a die or drawing a card if applicable.
  • Question
Do players in teams of two stay on the same piece of furniture or move separately in True American? How does the dynamic change if only one person can win?
    Umer Farooq
    Community Answer
In True American with teams of two, players typically move separately but work together strategically. Both teammates can be on different pieces of furniture, but they share the goal of advancing toward the castle (winning). Teams collaborate to answer questions, complete challenges, or protect each other from being sent back. However, only one person can win, so even teammates may eventually compete individually in the final stages. The team dynamic adds strategy and support, but the game remains competitive. Clarify rules with your group before playing!
