Yes, you can keep driving, but you'll have lots of torque and throttle response with little speed, and your RPMs will start getting pretty high, which means you'll need to shift to second gear, and to do so you need to pull in the clutch while simultaneously letting off the gas completely and shifting up with the shifter which will pass through N (neutral) and be in second gear. It is the only time and place you can can go through a gear and not use it (N), with the rest of the gears you won't pass though them and hit the gear after.
