Do you want to tag an Instagram account in a Facebook post? If you’re struggling to figure out how to do it, you’re not alone! The only way to tag an Instagram profile is to post from a Facebook Page that’s linked to an Instagram account using the Meta Business Suite. If you’re posting on your personal Facebook account, you can still cross-post to Instagram, but you can’t tag Instagram profiles directly. Read on to learn how to share content between these two Meta platforms.

  1. It’s totally possible to tag Instagram users in a Facebook post, but doing so is a bit tricky. The most reliable way to do it is using the web browser version of the Meta Business Suite .
  2. You can’t tag an Instagram user in a regular Facebook post, although that option might become available in the future. However, for now, you can cross-post between Instagram and Facebook. You can also share links to Instagram posts or profiles in a Facebook post.

Using Meta Business Suite

  1. In a web browser, visit https://business.facebook.com and log in with the account associated with your Page.
    • This method will only work if you have a Page associated with a Meta business portfolio .
    • You can also do this from the Business Suite app, but we found that method to be less reliable in our testing.
  2. Before you can tag Instagram accounts, you have to link your Facebook portfolio to a professional Instagram account . Take the following steps to link your accounts: [1]
    • Click
      Android 7 Settings
      Settings in the left-hand menu bar on the main Business Suite page.
    • Under Accounts , click Instagram Accounts .
    • Click + Add and check the box to accept the terms and conditions in the window that pops up.
    • Click Claim Instagram Account .
    • Log into your Instagram Account when prompted and follow any additional instructions to complete the process.
    • Click Confirm .
  3. Click the Home icon in the menu bar on the left. This will take you back to the main control center for your linked accounts.
  4. You’ll see this blue button near the top of the page.
  5. Locate the Post To dropdown menu at the top left side of the Create post page. Check the boxes next to your Facebook Page and your Instagram account.
    • You must have both accounts selected in order to tag an Instagram profile in your post! However, you can choose to publish only to Facebook once you’ve finished tagging the Instagram user.
  6. If you only enter text, the post will only be published on Facebook—even if you have both Facebook and Instagram selected under “Post To.” If you want to post in both places, add an image or video to your post.
  7. Once you type the @, a menu will pop up suggesting possible matches based on any letters you enter next. Type the full name of the account you want to tag or select the correct suggestion from the list.
  8. If you only want to publish your post on Facebook, click the dropdown menu and deselect your Instagram account. The tag in your post will still work!
  9. Your post will now be published to your Facebook Page with the Instagram user tagged. When you click the link to the tagged account, their profile will open in Instagram.

Linking Facebook to Instagram

  1. To cross-post between your personal Facebook page and your Instagram account, you’ll need to link your accounts. You can do this easily from the Instagram app. This app icon looks like a pink, purple, and orange camera icon.

    • If you're not logged into the right Instagram account, make sure you do that before continuing.
  3. You'll see this three-line menu icon in the upper-right corner of your profile page and tapping it will prompt a menu to drop-down. [3]

  5. It’s at the bottom of the menu that pops up when you go to Accounts Center .
    • From here, you can see a list of accounts that are already linked to your Accounts Center. Check if the Facebook account you want to add is already listed.

  7. A message may pop up, prompting you to log into instagram.com. If you see this, tap Continue and follow the prompts to sign in.
  8. Follow the prompts to finish connecting your selected Facebook profile.

  1. As an alternative to tagging someone’s Instagram account, you can share a link to their profile in a Facebook post. This is a pretty quick and simple process if your {{#Linking Facebook to Instagram|Instagram and Facebook accounts are linked}}. Start by visiting the person’s profile on the Instagram app or website.
  2. You’ll see this at the top right corner of the person’s profile on the Instagram app.
    • If you’re on the Instagram website, tap ••• at the top of their profile and select Share to… instead.
  3. This will generate a Facebook post with a link to the profile you’re sharing. The link will display as a preview card with the user’s Instagram profile picture and username.
  4. Add a caption to your post if you like, and make any other adjustments you want before tapping or clicking Post .

    • Use this method if you plan to share only certain posts from Instagram to Facebook.
  2. To do this , tap the + icon at the top or bottom of your screen, then choose Post . You can then use an image from your gallery or take your own picture/video. [4]
  3. You’ll see this option on the final post creation screen, where you can add a caption, tags, and other features. You may need to scroll down to find it.
  4. If you have multiple other Meta accounts linked to your Instagram account, locate the Facebook profile where you want to share the post. Toggle the switch next to it to the On position.
    • When you’re done, tap the < icon in the top left corner of the screen to go back to the previous screen.
  5. On Android, the checkmark or post icon is in the top right corner of your screen. On iOS, you’ll see the Share button at the bottom of the screen. Your post will not only share to Instagram, but to your linked Facebook account as well.
    • Unless you have all posts set to share to your other accounts automatically, you’ll need to repeat this process to share any future posts from Instagram to Facebook.

  7. You're sharing posts from Instagram to Facebook, so you want to make sure you have the correct Facebook account selected here. The circle will fill in to indicate that it is selected. [7]
    • In this case, all posts or videos that you create on Instagram will also post to your Facebook account.
  8. Since you're intending on sharing your posts, tap the switch next to "Your Instagram posts" to toggle it on.
    • The switch will be to the right to indicate that it is enabled. [8]

    • Alternatively, you can access these settings by going to ☰ > Crossposting > Accounts Center . You can also use the Crossposting menu to set up crossposting to a Page instead of your personal Facebook profile.
