  1. 1
Use the button on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac. Siri is enabled by default on all modern Apple devices, so you can usually turn on Siri by pressing and holding the designated Siri button on your device (usually the side, top, or home button). This button's location varies by Apple device:
    • On an iPhone, press and hold the side button (if your device has Face ID), or the Home button (for iPhones with Touch ID), then ask Siri a question.
    • On an iPad, press and hold the top button. If your iPad has a Home button, press and hold that instead. When you release the button, you can ask Siri anything.
    • On a Mac, click the Siri button on the menu bar or dock, or tap the Siri button on your MacBook's Touch Bar. If you have an Apple keyboard with function keys (e.g., F1, F2), you can press and hold the Dictation key (the microphone), release it, and make your request. [1]
      • If Siri is not in the menu bar, you can add it at Apple menu > System Settings > Control Center . [2]
      • You can adjust your Siri preferences in Apple menu > System Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri (or Siri ).
    • If Siri doesn't start, it may be disabled. Jump down to How to Set Up Siri to learn how to turn it on.
  2. Siri's voice feature is also enabled by default, so you should be able to activate Siri by voice as long as your screen is unlocked and you haven't disabled Siri. Just say, "Hey Siri," followed by your request, and Siri will supply an answer.
    • For example, to have Siri check your text messages, say, "Hey Siri, do I have any new messages? "

Type to Siri. If you have an Apple device that supports Apple Intelligence (iOS 18 and later), like any iPhone 16 model, iPhone 15 Pro, or iPhone 15 Pro Max, you can skip using your voice and instead type it out chat-style. Just double-tap the bottom of the screen to activate the Siri typing field, then type your request. [3]
    • You can toggle Type to Siri on and off in Settings > Accessibility > Siri . [4]
  4. 4
Press or tap your AirPods. If you're using AirPods, you can ask Siri a question without unlocking your iPhone or iPad's screen:
    • On AirPods Max, press and hold the Digital Crown, then speak your request.
    • On AirPods Pro or AirPods 3rd gen and later, press and hold the force sensor, then speak.
    • On 1st or 2nd generation AirPods, double-tap the outside of either AirPod, wait for the chime, then make a request.
    • If you have a compatible Bluetooth headset or other compatible headphones, you may be able to activate Siri by pressing and holding the Call button until you hear a short notification chime, then release and speak your command.
  5. 5
Touch the top of your HomePod. If you have a HomePod, touch and hold the top, then ask Siri for something. If your request is on the longer side, keep pressing and holding the top of the HomePod as you speak, and then release it when you're finished.
  6. If your vehicle supports CarPlay, press and hold the Voice button on your steering wheel as you speak your request. When you're finished, lift your finger from the Voice button, and Siri will respond. You can also press and hold the digital Home button on your CarPlay display.
  7. On any Apple Watch, you can look at the watch face or tap the screen, then say "Hey Siri," or press and hold the Digital Crown and then ask for what you need.
    • On Apple Watch Series 3 or later, you can also raise your wrist to bring your Apple Watch close to your mouth. As soon as you raise your watch, you can start speaking the command or question.
  8. 8
Hold down the Siri button on your Apple TV Siri remote. As you're holding down the button (which is on the right side of your remote), ask Siri anything, then release the button.
    • You can only use Siri on Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD, and Siri is not available in all regions. [5]
