Different Kinds of Strength
When we talk about “being strong,” you probably think about having big muscles or being able to lift a car. But there are lots of different kinds of strength, and everyone’s strong in their own way.
Physical Strength
Physical strength is
that big-muscles kind of strength, but that’s not all of it! People who are physically strong also have lots of stamina and endurance. Their bodies are resilient, and they bounce back from injuries and illnesses. You can rely on them to do the hard, sweaty jobs that other people can’t do.
- Getting physically stronger:
To improve your body, it’s all about pushing it past its limits while also taking care of it. Hit the gym, get outside, eat a balanced diet
, and drink plenty of water.
Emotional Strength Emotional strength is all about understanding your own feelings and not letting them get the best of you. It’s totally normal and natural to feel sad, afraid, hopeless, or any other negative emotion, but it’s another thing to let that emotion decide what you do next. People who are emotionally intelligent don’t let those emotions overwhelm them, but they also don’t ignore those emotions.
- Getting emotionally stronger:
To improve your emotional strength, read more stories, watch more movies, and ask people about themselves. Journal
about your feelings. The more you face your emotions and the emotions of others, the more you understand them.
Mental Strength Mental strength is all about staying cool under pressure. Other people might panic or fold when they don’t know what to do, but mentally strong people stay calm and think things through. They’re curious, eager to learn, and not afraid to be wrong.
- Getting mentally stronger:
To improve your mental game, strive to learn more! Crack open a textbook or a non-fiction book, ask more questions, and seek more answers. You might not always find what you’re looking for, but you’ll expand your mind while you do it. The brain is a muscle, after all.
Spiritual Strength Spiritual strength is about human connection and understanding the invisible forces that connect us all. Even if you don’t believe in god, you can be spiritually strong by believing in other people. Spiritually strong people are usually optimists who can see the silver lining in any situation.
- Getting spiritually stronger: Look on the bright side! Every misfortune contains an opportunity. When you meet someone you don’t like, try to see their better side, instead. That way, you don’t let the bad stuff get you down.
