Show curtains that are decorative go on the outside of the shower, however, you will want a plastic shower curtain liner to go on the inside of the shower to prevent water from spilling out onto the floor.

Measure the shower curtain to decide the height for installing the curtain rod. Install the first bracket for the rod. Then check the level and mark the place for putting the second bracket.

    Expert Answer
If you have an L-shaped curtain rod, there are two options. You can buy two matching curtains and put one on either side. Try to find the same curtain in varying sizes to accommodate. Or, you can buy an extra wide curtain and use this with shower ring hooks. The curtain would be collected at the bend of the rod, as it wouldn't be able to move past the ceiling support rod, but it would still close all the way.

Measure your shower opening and get a shower curtain that fits the width and height. Most shower curtains come in standard sizes, so unless you have a very narrow or very wide space, a standard one will work.
  • Question
If the size reads 72 x 96, which one is width and which one is how tall the curtain is from the rod to the floor?
    Community Answer
72" is the height from floor to rod and 96" is the maximum width.
  • Question
Should the shower curtain and window curtain match? If not, what tips can you give for choosing curtains?
    Community Answer
If you want it to match then you can make it match, but if you don't, try using similar colors and designs that look good together. Blue and green colors are great for bathrooms.
  • Question
Should I hang both the liner and the shower curtain on the same rod?
    Community Answer
Personally, I used the same rings on the same rod, which works if you intend for them to open and close together. If you want the two to move independently, then you will need two rods.
  • Question
So if I have a 36" shower stall do I need a curtain a bit larger?
    Community Answer
Yes, you'd want at least a 48" wide curtain.
  • Question
I have a 60-inch wide shower. What width do I buy for a shower liner?
    Community Answer
You want it to be about two inches bigger, so 62 inches is what you are looking for.
  • Question
What size curtain do I need for a 5 ft wide shower with a curved rod?
    Community Answer
It depends, the radius would determine the actual length. That being said, 5 feet is a fairly standard tub enclosure so that is really all you need to know when ordering.
  • Question
My shower is only 34" wide, but most shower curtains are 54-84" wide. What size should I get?
    Community Answer
Go with the 54". This will give the curtain the ability to gather at the ends, have more weight, and avoid opening and letting water out.
