  • Question
How do I get grid paper?
    Community Answer
You can buy it at most office supply stores such as Staples, or any other stores that have stationary items. You might even find some at the dollar store. If you have a ruler, you could also just draw grids onto plain paper.
  • Question
Can I play it with normal A4 sized paper?
    Community Answer
Yes, as long as you each know the rules and can play it properly.
  • Question
Can I draw the grid myself?
    Community Answer
Yes, you can draw your own grid.
  • Question
How can I play a game on paper?
    Community Answer
Use graph paper. Label the top with letters and the side with numbers. Make two sheets. Make little boats from graph paper. Put little pieces of colored tape on the spots you guessed or hit.
  • Question
    How many people can play?
    Community Answer
Only two people can play Battleship at once. If you have more people, you could do multiple games as a tournament or work together as a team.
  • Question
Can the ships be on diagonally-adjacent squares, or only horizontal and vertical?
    Tom De Backer
    Top Answerer
The ships must be placed either horizontally or vertically. No ship can be placed diagonally. If you place the destroyer (length of 2) in the middle of the board, then 10 fields around it must be clear. In other words, ships cannot touch diagonally.
  • Question
Can we place all the ships horizontally?
    Aston Plunkett
    Community Answer
Sure. It is actually a winning strategy for some people. By placing all of your ships horizontally, though, your opponent might guess your strategy.
