Did you forget your Facebook password? If you know your Facebook email address or linked phone number, you can easily reset it from the login screen on your mobile device or computer. If you don't have access or if you were hacked, there are still ways to recover your account. Here's how to reset your Facebook password when you have forgotten it and what to do if you can't reset it, with security tips from computer specialist Luigi Oppido.

Using Mobile

Open the Facebook app. It's the dark-blue app with a white "f" on it. This will open the login page.
- You'll see the sign-in page if you're not logged into an account. If you are logged into an account, you'll need to log out. You can only change your password within your settings if you know your current password.

Enter your mobile number. If you signed up using your email address, tap Search by email instead at the bottom and enter your email. [1] X Research source

Tap Continue . You should see your Facebook name at the top.

Tap Try another way . This is the button below the Log in button.

Select "Get code or link via email" and tap Continue . This is the first option. If you used a mobile number instead, you'll receive a code sent to your phone number.
- If you don't have access to your email or phone number, tap No longer have access to these? instead. You'll need to complete the security steps

Enter your reset code and tap Continue . Check your email address or phone for the code. If you don't see the code, tap Send code again to send a new one.

Enter a new password and tap Continue . Make sure to use a password you can remember and is secure .
- Your password will be changed. You can now log into Facebook with your new password.
- If you have trouble remembering your passwords, Oppido recommends investing in a password manager to store your passwords. This only requires you to remember one master password to access your other saved passwords.

Using Desktop

Open the Facebook website . This will open the Facebook login page.
- You'll see the sign-in page if you're not logged into an account. If you are logged into an account, you'll need to log out. You can only change your password within your settings if you know your current password.

Click Forgot password? . This is below the Log In button.

Enter your email or phone number and click Search . If you use an email address to log into your account but have your phone number linked, you can use either.
- If you don't have access to the email address or phone number linked to your account, see our troubleshooting section instead.

Click Try another way . This is the grey button next to the Continue button.

Select "Send code via email" and click Continue . If you used your phone number, you'll see via mobile instead.
- Alternatively, you can select Use my Google account to verify your identity. This bypasses the code reset process.

Enter your reset code and click Continue . Check your email address or phone for the code. If you don't see the code, click Didn't get a code? to send a new one.

Enter a new password and click Continue . Make sure to use a password you can remember and is secure.
- Your password will be changed. You can now log into Facebook with your new password.
- If you don't want to use a password manager to save your passwords, Oppido recommends the second option: writing your passwords down. "You can't hack paper, but you can steal paper," warns Oppido. Make sure to keep any written passwords in a safe and secure place.
