Hey, I was patrolling and I saw @Busbyhead
redirect the ANB for a talk page for easier use. Then a few seconds ago @Davecrosby
said he was reverting it, and maybe discuss it in the Forums. So, was just putting up this thread due to that. =) June Days
Yep, I was just about to make a post about this
I had what I thought was a bright idea, along the lines of the Help Team page http://www.wikihow.com/wikiHow_talk:Help-Team
I often find myself getting lost in the admin notice board, and thought it could be quite intimidating for people who need to report something to an administrator (particularly when you go to edit it). So, taking inspiration from the help team page, I thought that it would be simpler if it was moved to a discussion page space. That way people can easily post notices, and an admin can just delete the message when it’s dealt with: a system that works very well for the help team. It eliminates the need for people to sign their messages with ~~~~ , and is much clearer in my opinion. Dave, quite rightly, wanted to discuss this in the forums first, as the current system has worked fairly well for the last 4 years or so. So, people’s opinions on whether the current or my proposed system is better would be appreciated. Current: http://www.wikihow.com/wikiHow:Administrator-Notice-Board
Proposed: http://www.wikihow.com/wikiHow_talk:Administrator-Notice-Board
Yes please! A wikiSecret very few people know…I have no idea how to use the ANB. Teresa showed me just the other night, but it was still confusing - Support the talk page idea. So, just to be clear, it would be putting in a message of the user, and telling what happened? (BTW, I know I’ve been on more than a year…Sorry for not knowing his to use it) June Days
Absolutely. You could simply leave a message to say which user was vandalising, with a link to the vandalism edit, and an admin would take care of the rest. No need to apologise! Like I say, I’ve thought it’s a very confusing page for a long time now.
Sounds good. When you moved them, you left a whole bunch of double redirects.
I fixed them though
I’d definitely support the idea then - I think it would make it easier for a lot of people Nee users and users who have been here a while. June Days
The message I left Busbyhead. Sure, see what people think. It has served us well for 4 years mostly in that format, though I must admit I preferred it when we had visible explanations for sections. A Talk Page version really doesn’t look clear or manageable. IMHO of course.

I like the Admin Notice Board the way it is now. I don’t think it’s too difficult to navigate; in fact, I think it’s more difficult to look for posted problems in a long list of discussion page messages as opposed to finding them entered under their relevant category. That’s just my opinion though.
Well nothing’s redirected at the moment, but thanks for the effort
@Jordan
, would it be like the Help Team when the Admin removes a report once they’ve taken care of it? A lot of Admins hang around IRC, could KiwiHow announce it like he does @stats
? June Days

If you look at how the help team page works, there are never more than 3 messages at a time. Once an issue is dealt with, the message is removed and that leaves a blank page ready for the next issue to be reported. I assure you it works very efficiently. And this isn’t to help experienced editors, it’s to help those who are less sure of these things such as June and I’m sure many others.

I don’t see why not, I guess. BTW, I’m not opposed to the idea of changing the format, if that’s what the majority of editors would like. I just prefer the way we have it now
If it’s not that nonfunctional, why change it around?

Are we sure it isn’t nonfunctional though? Who knows how many people go to report vandalism but are intimidated and don’t go through with it?

I haven’t heard of this happening. I just think it’s pretty functional the way it is now - again, my opinion. I’m fully OK with it if you want to change the format.
All I have to say…Ditto. Then of course. June Days
We currently have the ability to have discussions (and do) within sections of the ANB.

There’s no reason why this can’t happen with the proposed system - just write within the discussion box and sign with tildes, as usual. I just want to remove a potential barrier to reporting vandalism… good UI design uses elements that the users are going to be familiar with (i.e. the message post box) - very few users will know how to post a message with the tildes no matter how much guidance you give or how obvious it may seem to wikiHow veterans
^ Seems like a good way to simplify reporting and confusion. =) June Days

Meh. I prefer to leave well enough alone. I can see tweaking the ANB to LABEL each section and perhaps give clearer formatting instructions for newbies. I like the “easyness” of a talk page… But I worry that folks will just want to chat… like they do on other talk pages… rather than report a problem. Is there a compelling reason to NOT have those handy reporting instructions on the main ANB page? Why is the talk page considered better than a regular page? Sorry… I"m not seeing the necessity of change here. Explain?
This is cool. It will definitely get new editors more comfortable reporting problems. I don’t like using {{userlinks|username|reason}} though. Maybe we could take a more simplified approach and use bullet points - the person’s username, type of problem, and a diff page each on three seperate bullets.
