Since Anna asked if there are any wikiHow images you like. I decided to pull a reversal. Are there any wikiHow images you do not like?

Yes, there are many. Lots of subjects are hard to depict photographically. Consequently many articles have been burdened with images of one or more people posed to appear as if they are thinking or interacting in some way with one another. These images don’t accomplish much except to break up the text visually. They often strike me as vanity pieces and almost laughable (to our detriment). I have actually noticed hundreds of these images. I think our visual team may be in the process of replacing them with something more helpful. As I say, many subjects are difficult, if not impossible, to illustrate graphically, and some may be best left without images. However, we probably have many artistically gifted contributors among us who could come up with creative text-breaks for most of these articles.

Yep, this ^ - our visual project has grown in quality a great deal over the years, so the standards have certainly changed. We don’t do these “torso shots” anymore, and none of us like 'em either, but that experimentation was part of the process that allowed us to get where we are today in visual quality. We don’t tend to redo visuals on old stubs until they get expanded and de-stubbed (since stubs are not live for readers at that stage so it’d be a waste of energies), so you’ll see some iffy ones around on old pages when you’re deep in tools and editing… but shouldn’t see new ones like this being added now. If you do, let me know, 'cause Bridget won’t stand for that:wink:

And if you’ve expanded/de-stubbed an article that has that ancient style on it (or any other inaccurate images), and you don’t want to add your own images, please please let me know that, too - we’ll want to replace the old ones!:smiley:

Thanks, Anna! I didn’t realize they were “old” images not viewable by the public. That’s really good to know! I can stop cringing now when I bump into them…:slight_smile:

No worries, @Donagan - yeah, if they’re on demoted/stubbed/otherwise-templated articles, those pages aren’t visible logged out or searchable in our main search. I’m sure a few of those images do still exist here or there on promoted topics… those pages are almost all in the queue for a redo already, but if you find any, I’d be very happy to check in case they’re missing from the to-do list. That’s so funny! Torso shots!! I ‘‘love’’ it. Do ya hafta have a torso to be in those shots? Seems like I’ve seen a few from the clavicle up! Hopefully, most people who see this thread won’t even know what we’re talking about. Maybe you should put this discussion out of its misery…  :slight_smile:
