Hi everyone, I browsed thru the requested articles on “homeopathic” and noticed that there were at least 4 exact same questions :“How to purchase homeopathic products” … just used different words i.e. “buy” vs. “purchase” and such. Look at this list: http://www.wikihow.com/Special:ListRequestedTopics?st_search=homeopathic&category=Health
Does anybody clean this list, or you keep it as is, and so a lot of duplicate requests will never be answered? I am just curious. LOL
Because of the large number of requests, it’s very difficult to check over all of the requests and keep up with them. Furthermore, the request system doesn’t always make itself out to be very user-friendly, and the search function (as well as looking through topics via categories) isn’t the easiest to use. Administrators can delete article requests should duplicates, inappropriate titles, or confusing requests arise. We actually have a (albeit relatively inactive) board for reporting requests that should be removed, and you are welcome to post any requests on here that you think need to be removed: http://www.wikihow.com/wikiHow:Suggested-Topics-to-Delete
OK, thank you Maniac. I will do that. Like I said there were at least 4 the same question, just different wording. Thank you for responding to me. Laura. Editing: I looked at this page you posted, and I need some clarification. How do I use this article? For example, should I place ‘to-be -deleted’ article name(s) under a certain category that applies (i.e. “duplicate title”). I need some little guidance on it please, and I will be glad to help cleaning the lists.
@Laura7491
: Yeah, if you just paste the applicable titles under the appropriate heading, in this case Duplicate Title, they will be deleted. It is also helpful if you put in parentheses the one that you think it is a duplicate of. That way the admin reviewing the request will have an easier time of figuring out exactly what you mean. Thanks for helping us clean up the request list!
Catspjs, thank you so much for clarification. Yes, I will help cleaning the request list. Some are very obviously duplicates. I can paste a few of them at once, not one title per form. Correct? I really care about wikiHow. So I will help. Thanks again!
Because of the relatively slow internet connection that I have much of the time, one thing I enjoy is cleaning out lists. There’s not much I can do with lists like the spellchecker list because it is far too cluttered with fluff that doesn’t belong there, and is updated too quickly, but I do keep up after several nfd pages and will make an attempt to keep and eye on the request list. If you run across one that has already been written you can either put an nfd dup along with the duplicated article or do a quick merge. I’ll be more than happy to help.
Davjohn, what is “nfd dup”? Pls take a look at that page and see if I provided the titles to be deleted correctly. This is something I have not done before on wikiHow. http://www.wikihow.com/wikiHow:Suggested-Topics-to-Delete
Sure I will keep an eye on the requested list. What I noticed and I mentioned it on the “Impossible” section was too generalized requested article. You will see. I think it’s impossible to write an article about something like this. Thank you Davjohn.
Laura.
nfd is “Nominated for Deletion.” There are several categories that can be used to nominate, called nfd for short, to let everyone know that the article is nominated and the reason. Anyone can go to the discussion page and weigh in on whether the article should be deleted. In either case, it generally means the article needs improvement. The nfd dup is used to show that there is a duplicate article already written. Alternatively, you can use the merge template to show where the article can be merged. You can learn more about the nfd in the Writer’s Guide and in http://www.wikihow.com/Category:Nominations-for-Deletion
.
There is an article suggested How to Send an Email. If I were to write that as an article, I would create sections for several different email clients. As far as some of the others is concerned, I did a search for each of the homeopathic article titles. I found none. Perhaps they had been deleted.
You are correct Davjohn- should be written for several different mail clients. Editing: no the duplicate titles were NOT deleted. Just checked. I counted 3 the same already as there were there before.
Apparently I missed something. Would you please give the website where you did your search, and the exact titles that you searched for. I’d like to look for those. If they are, in fact, duplicates I can get rid of the extra ones.
Hi Davjohn, here is a link to that article where I put those titles together. http://www.wikihow.com/index.php?title=wikiHow:Suggested-Topics-to-Delete&action=edit§ion=2
OK, here where you go to find them… in Health section … type “homeopathic” in Search … and get a list … Hope this helps… if not, pls let me know, I’ll try to do it differently.
OK, I need help from someone who is familiar with using these pages. Laura7491 gave several items that are duplicates. I went to the page that covers the homeopathic titles and did the search for the individual titles. The search returned “There are no requested articles related to ‘buy homeopathic medicine’”. When I looked through the list the titles Laura noted are there. Can you help? Why is the search telling me that they are not there when they are plainly in the list?
Ok, could you go back to the page and see if the titles are still there? I deleted 5 duplicate titles. I think I got the ones you were seeing.
Yes, Davjohn, I checked and it looks like you pitched all the duplicates. Good job! :))
