Wow, can you believe it? Another year has flown by, and now we’re posting on wikiHow’s 19th birthday! That’s right, we’re officially in the last year of our teens, and what a journey it’s been so far! As we blow out another candle on our birthday cake, let’s take a moment to reflect on how far we’ve come.
We’ve collectively written over 249,000 articles and poured passion into over 39 million edits over the last 19 years. That’s not just growth, that’s impressive dedication! Every single contribution, no matter how big or small, has helped shape wikiHow into the amazing site it is today, where anyone can learn how to do (just about) anything!
Quizzes have been one of the biggest successes for wikiHow this year. Although we first dipped our toes into the realm of quizzes in 2022, in 2023 we took off running! Through our quizzes, we’re on a mission to engage, entertain, and enlighten our readers in new and exciting ways. We’ve now crafted over 200 fun, inspiring, and helpful quizzes on our main site and 7 international sites covering an array of different topics - from self-discovery and health to relationships, personal style, dating, and beyond - and now we’re even developing quiz ideas that you suggest
!
We’ve also discovered that certain topics we write on, like tech, astrology, the supernatural, and religion, are helping lots of readers recently, so we’ve leaned into these categories. With these new articles, and of course, our quizzes, we’re solidifying our position as the go-to expert in these areas. Additionally, because we know that updating older articles can significantly improve their performance, over the year we refreshed over 3,500 articles across various categories together!
Throughout 2023, we experimented with new editorial treatments to better serve our readers and increase engagement. User Journeys, Intra-Article Quizzes, Polls, and Celebrity Greenboxes are just a few of the innovations that have been shaping the way users interact with our content. Additionally, we’ve increased our video production so we can include more videos on articles and social media to further engage our readers. Our social media presence has also grown substantially, and we now have over 6.1 million followers across all channels! We’re now reaching more people than ever on social media, which is helping to spread wikiHow knowledge far and wide.
2023 was also a year of embracing change, especially in the world of Artificial Intelligence. This year, we’ve explored the potential of AI, while also remaining true to our mission and values. We quickly decided not to include AI-generated text content within our articles, but continue to keep up with advances in AI and are experimenting with tools and features that can help improve wikiHow for both staff and readers. We’re excited for potential developments to come during 2024!
So, as we move into our 20th year of wikiHow, we want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to you, our Community.
