It’s hard to believe, but today is wikiHow’s 20th anniversary! That’s two whole decades of teaching, learning, growing, and connecting through the power of how-to knowledge. In this ever-changing world of the internet, 20 years is nothing short of a lifetime, and we know we couldn’t have done it without every one of you.
When wikiHow launched in 2005, the goal was simple but ambitious: to create the most helpful how-to manual available. Fast forward 20 years, and we’ve achieved more than we could have dreamed. Together, we’ve written over 255,000 articles, made more than 40 million edits, and built a global community of volunteers and readers, all united by a common passion for learning. wikiHow is now read by more than 100 million people around the world every month!
This past year has been an exciting chapter in wikiHow’s story. We’ve:
-
Published almost 4,200 new articles, covering everything from wild internet slang
to trending aesthetics like fairycore
and corporate goth
. We explored the meanings behind popular song lyrics
, helped readers plan an epic road trip to Alaska
, and taught fans how to make friendship bracelets
for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour.
-
Refreshed and updated over 3,300 existing articles, ensuring the most accurate, up-to-date advice for our readers.
-
Expanded our quiz library to over 570 quizzes across 12 languages, on our quest to engage users in fun and meaningful ways.
-
Continued to explore editorial innovations, like answer box targeting (the overview snippets you see on Google), adding expert content and expanding green boxes, and most recently creating discussion Forums
for a range of different article and quiz topics!
2024 also saw wikiHow reach new heights in partnerships and our online presence, cultivating great partnerships with the YMCA
, the World Wildlife Fund
, Mental Health America, and Feeding America. Our social media presence is also thriving, hitting a HUGE milestone of 1 million followers on TikTok
this year, with viral content like our Wait, what? Wednesday posts helping spread how-to knowledge to millions more.
So, as we celebrate this 20 year milestone, we’re filled with gratitude - every edit made, every article written, and every wikiGnome task completed represents a collective effort to make the world a little more connected. That’s the magic of wikiHow - it’s not just a website; it’s a mission, powered by people like you.
As we blow out the candles on our 20th birthday cake, we’re already looking forward to what’s next. Staying relevant for 20 years isn’t a fluke, it takes hard work and the courage to innovate and try new things. So as we look towards the next few years, we’d love to know what you’d like to see from wikiHow in the future. Let us know, because we’re always listening and ready to try out new ideas!
To every contributor, wikiHowian, reader, and supporter: thank you for being part of this incredible journey so far. Here’s to another 20 years of making the seemingly impossible doable, the complicated simple, and the everyday extraordinary.
Happy 20th birthday, wikiHow! Let’s celebrate this milestone together!
