I have three templates that an author sent me just recently. She sent me http://www.wikihow.com/Template:Defender2 , http://www.wikihow.com/Template:Kind , and http://www.wikihow.com/Template:Author2 . While it looks great now on the Template page itself, when you send the template to an editor, the preview looks rather horrible. The image throws the whole template off-balance and the bottom portion of the image tends to continue past the border on the template on the person’s Talk page. Although I thought a fix was to remove the width and height styles (which worked on some Templates to fix for the same issue), these have become a problem for these templates.) The one without an image that has only text is used rather frequently by some and so keeping this unworking would be unwieldy, but it’s become problematic. Can someone please help these templates and come up with a solution to fix this formatting problem so the preview on the talk page actually work? Both @vishwavijay and I thank you.

I think I might have made a fix on the Author2 template. The preview on it looks way better when the image is centered. I also made an increase to the number of pixels, though it may not have actually been necessary:  https://www.wikihow.com/index.php?title=Template%3AAuthor2&diff=18864317&oldid=18864116

The same seemed to apply for the Defender2 template:  https://www.wikihow.com/index.php?title=Template%3ADefender2&diff=18864327&oldid=18864175

There was also supposed to be an image on the Kind template, which I had removed last year since it was causing display issues, as you mention. I re-added that image, and typed in the command for it to be centered, just like the previous two templates. Though it still looks horrible on the template page itself, how it displays on a talk page is what matters in this case. I found that the image was pushing the text down, and so as a result, some of it was being shoved outside of the template’s border and making the template look messy when previewed. I removed a few <br> tags for that reason:  https://www.wikihow.com/index.php?title=Template%3AKind&diff=18864350&oldid=18864129

Hey @Byankno1 @McDonalds1 All the three templates are looking perfect  now. The {{Kind}} template looks distorted on the template page, but may be thats a trivial issue? Since, its looking fine on talk pages.

Thanks for making the changes.

No problem, Vishwa. How it displays on it’s own template page doesn’t really matter here, though I agree that it would be a neat tweak to make, if it’s even possible.

Just to update us on this project, I think I might’ve also deciphered an issue with the {{allrounder}} and {{teambuilder}} templates. I got the {{allrounder}} one from Brianna today, which made me think whether something was wrong with the coding or not. They were fine when previewed in messages, but when pasted on my user page and previewed, the text overflowed through the bottom, therefore making things look messy. I removed a few <br> tags on both of them and made other edits to them as necessary.

I found {{ WikiGnome }} and {{ Shining Star2 }} from this page: http://www.wikihow.com/wikiHow:Templates/General-Purpose-Awards having the image overflowing the borders.

Also, I found on this page: http://www.wikihow.com/wikiHow:Templates/User-Fun-and-Personal

The title says, ‘Fun and Personal’ but it has some rather sensitive templates which do not seem appropriate under the term ‘fun’. Like these templates:

  1. {{ 911 }} for the September 11 tragedy.
  2. {{ Amber }} Locating missing Children. (I do not understand this template. Could someone explain if the message is to be taken literally)?
  3. {{ Important }} for smoking statistic.
  4. {{ Dumb }} (I do not understand this either.)
  5. {{ Holocaust }}
  6. {{ Trix }} (This, I just wanted to know it’s significance. As I do not know much about this. It looks fun and colorful).

@Vishwavijay I can help you. I’ve fixed both WikiGnome, Shining Star and even Trix who had the same display for image problem.

The rest I’m unsure of.

Trix, by the way, is a very fruity cold cereal here in America with red, yellow and purple, orange and all sorts of colorful and fun shapes .  It’s most famous icon is the “Trix Rabbit” and the slogan “Silly Rabbit; Trix are for kids!” as you can see by most of the historical advertisements (most of them I remember as a kid in the 90s) here.

.I’m unsure how inappropriate the others are under the term.  Yes, although I guess the editors who were previewing their templates there under the alternate term “personal”, there are some who don’t understand this and are going more for “fun” than the personal route of it. Perhaps some can help collaborate to think up a better name (or merge them to a more appropriate page) for those others than to be under this “fun” wikiHow namespace page instead.

I took care of these so they didn’t look so lousy on the Template namespace page, and therefore not look lousy on the “preview” page as well (not sure exactly where this namespace page would be). I found that removing the height attribute from the div HTML tag and changing the pictures justification from either right or left to CENTER and/or removing the size of the image tends to work and makes both the image and picture display inside the border for both the Talk page and any subsequent pages.

@Byankno1 Great! The templates are looking really neat now. Thanks so much for the link to yummy Trix. Now I know why the template.
Yes, lets wait for the templates to be segregated to its appropriate category or page.

Right. Thanks. I should’ve done that. I did do the image thing for a few templates, but I didn’t see anything wrong with any others after that.
