Happy Monday, folks!

I hope you all had great weekends - personally, I was clinging to what surely was the last weekend of warm weather we’ll be having in the Bay Area for quite a while :’)

I wanted to give you the heads up that soon (read: now-ish), you’ll start seeing info about Q&A activity on user pages!

People are doing lots of great work on Q&A, and Alissa and Scott have been working on a feature that will allow your user page to show many questions you’ve answered and which topics you’ve had the most activity in.

I think the addition is pretty cool, and hopefully it’ll be a welcome addition to your user pages/a warm reminder of the help that so many of you have been offering to our readers outside of your regular patrolling, editing, and other contributions.

Let me know what you think of it and whether you have any questions:slight_smile:

Sweet! That sounds awesome (and also like your devs are hard at work, whew!). Out of curiosity, is there an option to toggle the app on and off?

Awesome! Seeing the title, I assumed it was a Q&A section on user pages to ask users.:wink:So, will it show if someone is a top answerer (or will that be another profile badge)?

And, I assume this feature is optional like the article lists.

Sounds a great idea, looking forward to seeing it.

We want a leaderboard on Answer Questions tool.

@TuckerB , I see that this has been launched. It might just be because I’m on my phone, but now the “Articles Started” and “Edits Patrolled” user page links appear to be broken - Safari can’t open them and says the link is invalid.

Thanks for the helpful feedback and questions, y’all! Regarding answers to those questions about Q&A (heh):

@Marina & @Batreeq - as of now, there’s no option to toggle the app on and off and I don’t believe the engineers currently have plans to make it an optional feature of profile pages. If there’s a specific/recurring issue coming up for folks on this front, I can definitely pass that along to the team and keep you posted on any developments that happen there - so let me know!

@IMQFT & @Batreeq - Ah, the spirit of friendly competition:slight_smile:I can pass the leaderboard/top answerer idea along to the engineering team as a suggestion, but it’s also worth mentioning here that quality is way more important than quantity on tools like these. Being truly helpful to readers through Q&A is something that requires developed and thoughtful answers, and that’s always going to be more important than a spot at the top of a leaderboard. We don’t have any plans to add a Q&A leaderboard, but Alissa and the engineers are constantly experimenting with ways to make Q&A better. If I do ever hear whisperings of any changes on this front, I’ll holler!

@Galactic-Radiance - Great call on both fronts - I seem to be having the same problem on my desktop, so that sounds like a bug. Thanks for pointing that out; passing it along to Alissa now!

@TuckerB - Okay–great feature! Thanks wH software engineers.:slight_smile:I have got a few points to bring up, though:

  • Bug: As seen on my userpage, the “Articles in Need of Screenshots” category is listed. Pretty sure that’s not supposed there.
  • Need to update: Unchecking the “List of articles I’ve started and edited, with number of views” on my profile editor hides the Questions Answered section, but we need to update that checkbox label to mention this feature.
  • Unrelated ( @Galactic-Radiance ): Is the Articles Started link even necessary? All it does is link to the user’s contributions page.

This is a cool feature - I didn’t see this post before and thought someone was messing with my page or something. I didn’t know I answered that many questions. So good work, all involved!

A leaderboard based on the “Helpful” votes?

Thanks for the badge, but I hate the Android!

Also add it here.

Thanks, @IMQFT - I’ll pass that on as a possible way to implement a leaderboard/make the box optional! Again, though, I’m not sure that a leaderboard is something we’ll implement given that writing helpful responses is what’s most important here - and that won’t always be accurately captured by the pure number of helpful votes a user has since some articles get tons of views (and, as a result, tons of helpful votes) while others get none.

@Batreeq nice catches - the “Articles needing screenshots” thing is likely a quirk of our subcategory system that’s showing up because you answered a few questions on articles that are in there. It may or may not be fixable, but I’ve passed it along to Alissa and her and Bebeth are going to take a gander. The point about updating the text is well-noticed, but not super high priority here since it doesn’t impact the functionality of the box, so Alissa has added it to her backlog of projects to be looked into:slight_smile:thanks for the feedback!
