Over the past few weeks, ive been working in Proposed Redirects. However, over the last few weeks, shes been noticing a lot of accepting of edits where the edits just dont jive.(If id be at my editing computer, id see about copying links to show you). The topics are cruddy topic names that have been linked to stuff that has one of those topics in mind.( @Krystle
Can you help me out here-as this pertains to most recent email you sent me) I am really good at rejecting stuff that isn’t even barely close to applicable. I know in the past, @Krystle
(from an earlier email) i had made a few mistakes pertaining to other reasons), but you and i both know that im not like that! I also know that Mal is only one person, but to effectively get rid of these crud topics, we need a lot more manpower to clear these out. Im not suggesting to bring in other admins to clear out this problem, but it would help! (I don’t know where else to go with this discussion) As far as the page goes, for one full week, ill give up the Proposed Page. I do have other editing I’m trying to get through that using this page is causing me to linger instead. I think we do need to discuss how far a person should go into redirecting these “cruddy” topic names.

The proposed redirects are the least backlog worry on the entire site… it’s a fact and it’s really nothing to bring an alert to
Just sayin’.
Cow humor? Great way to break the ice!

Frankly? I’m not sure I’m clear on what you are asking for here, or why you feel this topic is important. I don’t feel I can comment or discuss “how far a person should go into redirecting those cruddy topic names” until I understand what it is you are trying to do. Some questions which may help clarify…? What link or process do you follow to find unusual or inappropriate redirects? Is this just articles with a title change request? What do you do with them once you’ve spotted them? Why do you feel it is important for others to join you in this effort?
Here are the two emails I received from Krystle. Some I realize my issue. THe others, well, drove me to create this main post(read next message below).
The newest email from Krystle does contain one I had researched and had found one where the two words aren’t distinct: Hi Chris, I came across two more redirects you created that go against the merge policy
http://www.wikihow.com/index.php?title=Craft-Jewelry&diff=prev&oldid=9444705
- crafting jewelry and throwing a party in which to sell your jewelry do not mean the same thing http://www.wikihow.com/index.php?title=Save-Your-Home-in-Chapter-13-Bankruptcy&diff=prev&oldid=9449775
- foreclosure and chapter 13 bankruptcy are not the same thing Most of your redirects make sense, but when these errors are made, they are harmful to wikiHow because they lock up a title in a redirect that is distinct and should be available for people to write. They cannot write it though because it is tied up in an incorrect redirect. This goes against our mission of trying to have articles on all distinct topics that do not violate our deletion policy. I’m not sure how to fix this? I don’t want to have to take away your booster status, because I know you understand the merge policy, so I am not sure why you create redirects between titles that do not mean the same thing. Maybe it would be good to take a break from creating proposed redirects. You are a good contributor in so many ways and I’m sure you do not want these mistakes to tint your reputation as a booster and an editor. Let me know your thoughts.
This other one, I later realized there were a few problems and that some were distinct, but I trusted (guess I shouldn’t trust them for too much longer, despite their issue as primary) the person who asked for these to be made, as the person used the one as their primary. Hi Chris, I was reviewing proposed redirects today and found that you were doing a lot of good work, but there were several titles I came across that should not have been combined, but you had combined them. I don’t understand why, because I know you are familiar with our merge policy, which is why you passed the NAB test. I can only assume you were rushing, which is not good! I need you to be more careful, since I approved you as a booster and these redirects show lack of knowledge of the merge policy
Can you please read through these to make sure these kinds of redirects do not get made again? Tell me when you are done so I can delete these redirects and free up these titles. I understand mistakes can happen but these happened from rushing or carelessness and you can prevent that by not doing this task when you are in a rush, or distracted. I hope this feedback helps. http://www.wikihow.com/index.php?title=Treat-a-Girl-at-a-Dance&diff=prev&oldid=9433705
- How you treat a girl at a dance and asking a girl to dance are not the same thing. The first title focuses on how a girl is treated at a dance. The second title focuses on asking a girl to dance, but it may or may not take place at an actual dance. http://www.wikihow.com/index.php?title=Delete-Restore-Points&diff=prev&oldid=9423210
- Restore points and system restore files are not the same thing. http://www.wikihow.com/index.php?title=Get-Gmail-Skins&diff=prev&oldid=9422551
- These titles do not mean the same thing. You can apparently get gmail skins through extensions, which is not covered in the existing article. I didn’t know this but I thought the titles sounded different so I googled “gmail skins” to make sure, and they are different. Unless you are sure they mean the same thing, do research to make sure. http://www.wikihow.com/index.php?title=Express-Breast-Milk-for-Later-Feeding&diff=prev&oldid=9413494
- The existing title is more specific because it focuses on the hand technique, as opposed to using a pump. “Express Breast Milk for Later Feeding” is more general. These should not be combined. http://www.wikihow.com/index.php?title=Treat-Ringing-in-the-Ear&diff=prev&oldid=9398962
- Not all ringing in the ears is caused by tinnius. http://www.wikihow.com/index.php?title=Deal-with-Relatives-Suffering-Depression&diff=prev&oldid=9391976
- One is specific to relatives, and dealing with, while the other is more general and focuses on helping. These are two very different things. Krystle
I have responded to both emails in a timely fashion, but have only gotten more worried when I got this top-one just yesterday.

I’m not “having a cow”
I was just pointing out the creation of redirects between titles that do not mean the same thing, as I would with any other contributor on wikiHow, because quality is important and feedback is how people learn. The proposed redirects are “proposed” by people who want to write a new article. When they write the title of the article they want to write, they are presented with similar titles and asked if there is already an article on wikiHow on the topic they want to write. If so, they are asked, which one? Then that pairing goes to the proposed redirects page. We should not expect these suggestions to be accurate all the time, that is why we have them reviewed by those who have studied the merge policy closely.

Calling out anyone by name in a discussion, especially when it appears you are accusing them of something, is a very poor community action. Besides that, looking at your list of created redirects, I can see some very questionable calls on whether a redirect is exactly the same as the target article. This is likely the reason she went ‘‘offsite’’ to bring the issue up with you.
Having done proposed redirects for many months, I think I agree with Maluniu here when I say this backlog has absolutely no effect on the site and is no cause for concern. It could be cleared out once a month and nobody would really care, as it affects nothing (besides disallowing potential duplicates). It is nothing to fret over, but please be careful going through these as Krystle said
Disallowing a duplicate title is one thing, but disallowing a potentially good future topic is another.

@BR
and @Tiagoroth
and @Krystle
GREAT responses! @Byankno1
… What THEY said…^^
Ok. My week-long Proposed Redirects “vacation” is over. I’m back together now. I don’t really know what got into me before this time. I must have been overworked at my job or something. You’d never realize how I was doing stuff, whenever I was. I found a few possibilities of how to adjust. They were all underneath my nose(quite literally). Trying to scroll around the screen(on my iPod touch, which Id tend to use for this app every morning) meant it was totally harsh to move my eyes so they were reading directly across. I do recognize that this problem existed, after Krystle said something, but…I also know how quality affects this site. Thanks for “shaking me up” @Krystle
, to see if anything was wrong. I really do appreciate that you did that.
