I would agree with @RubyRoseRain
here on the topic of sexual content. For me, the issue with children potentially stumbling upon these articles isn’t the primary concern (after all, every article, whether explicitly or implicitly, has an intended audience), but I am worried about the direction wikiHow is headed in with the intent
behind the creation of these articles–especially, as I brought up previously, in the case of sexual articles (nfd|sex) written to promote sex toy businesses. wikiHow’s focus when dealing with these topics should be sex education, not sex instruction.
I will quote this from @Zygomatt
, which helped me interpret the nfd|sex stipulation when I was just starting out:
In addition (edit):
This is also of particular concern to me. I don’t know how well the implementation of this tool is working out, but the use of AI here, and especially the muted circumstances in which they were created, seem hypocritical. I thought Jayne and the wikiHaus team made it quite clear in January 2023 that reader-viewable article content should not be made with AI. It’s only Q&A now, but that generates many questions regarding future implementation. How far will this go, and when will we get clear delineations on what staff plan to do with AI next? Is AI usage here perhaps indicative of a coming shift away from the volunteer oriented wikiHow mission (in other ways, moving towards potential replacement in the worst case)?
I feel we need to look back at the original announcement of the AI policy and ask ourselves whether or not staff are holding true to the standards that were originally set. If priorities or opinions have changed, I think we would all appreciate some clarification at the very least.
From the original Jan 2023 announcement:
Please let me know if you think my concerns are uninformed or unnecessary, and I agree that we need more conversation surrounding this topic as a community.
