Disclaimer: This post is not intended to be a debate about drug legalization or drug use. It is merely intended to be a discussion of the type of content we allow on wikiHow per the Deletion Policy.The Deletion Policy states that articles about or relating to “recreational drug use” are not allowed. However, we do allow articles about alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana related products. Regardless of your personal opinion of these, all of these topics can be considered recreational drug use. The current policy seems to be talking mainly about articles on the far end of the “drug spectrum” (cocaine, heroin, meth, etc.). The question is, where do we draw the line on what is considered acceptable or unacceptable? Are the only drug-related articles acceptable for deleting those where the drug is illegal everywhere? What do we do (or do we do anything) about articles about marijuana, which has varying levels of legality all over the globe? I’m curious to see the community’s thoughts on this controversial topic.

Same as with the spanking issue. It ‘’‘can’’’ be seen as physical and emotional abuse. Alcohol and tobacco articles aren’t really drug focused as far as I can tell. Marijuana is legal in some countries (doesn’t mean i agree with it), which makes it an acceptable topic to write about. My opinion on the tag is for articles that condone the use of illegal drugs or have anything on the topic other than for medical uses. For example Morphine is mainly used as a medical painkiller, but is also used as drugs. If there would be an article about morphine, with no link to the medical side of it, I think it would deserve the tag.

Interesting topic. I have wondered about the nfd|dru tag too. Since illegal drug topics would fall under {{nfd|ill}} this seems to suggest nfd|dru would only be needed for legal drugs used for recreation… tobacco, alcohol, and marijuana are the only ones I can think of, but those drugs are acceptable. I include marijuana because it’s not universally illegal. No suggestions or opinions here, only confusion. But I’ll be following.

If the title or main idea of the article is about taking drugs or abusing drugs, it should be deleted. If it is about quitting drugs or stopping a drug obsession, it should stay.

@Batreeqah what is your take on recreational drugs like marijuana, alcohol, and tobacco? They don’t qualify for deletion as illegal.

@AndrewG1999 Damn right man.
