By adding the {{nfd|lan}} template, the following message should be displayed: Hello! I noticed you added an article that was not in the English language to wikiHow. We do want to keep articles in your language, but we want to move them to the wikiHow version in your language. Can you please [[User_talk:Chris-H|leave a message for Chris Hadley]] or email him at Chris@wikiHow.com
and let him know you need help? He will help you move the article to the wikiHow version in your language. However, when I used this template today, this message isn’t getting displayed. All it shows is “lan”. Other NFD-reasons work for me. Screencast: http://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/c2ViiGnf31

I never knew NFD|lan existed.

Same here. I have always used the {{notinenglish}} template for such scenarios. Besides, nfd lan isn’t part of the deletion policy.
I didn’t know about the {{notinenglish}} template. I know that NFD lan isn’t part of the deletion policy. Jack had proposed this new NFD reason about an year ago. I couldn’t find the discussion thread. But here is another post from Jack asking help from super-template experts to create a new NFD reason: http://forums.wikihow.com/discussion/4803/any-super-template-experts-here/#Item_3
Since I haven’t been very active on wikiHow in the past few months, I don’t know if NFD lan is still used or not. The code for NFD lan is still present in Template:NFD, so technically, it should still work right?
Oh! It’s not a bug! It’s happening because a piece of code is missing (or removed after discussion?) in Template:NFD. I was going through the template carefully…when I noticed that the code for NFD lan (when it’s placed on an article) is missing. Therefore, the template treats “lan” as part of the “other” category. However, the code for {{nfd|lan}} (when it’s placed on a talk page) is still there. So, if I put {{nfd|lan}} on somebody’s talk page, it should still display the message (refer to my first post in thia discussion). Sorry for the confusion
Should we let the NFD lan code for talk pages stay or remove it?

Since the inception of the notinenglish category and templates, there isn’t a need for an nfd|lan, so it could go, as far as I am concerned. It is my understanding that Chris oversees notinenglish so that articles that might fit a foreign language wikiHow wouldn’t be discarded too quickly
And if I remember correctly, there was a community discussion on NFD lan many weeks ago. I think the general consensus was to create a new template (notinenglish) and not use the NFD lan (I cannot find a link to the discussion. I could be wrong too.) I think we should remove the code for NFD lan from the NFD template (since it’s not used now, and to avoid any future confusion like this one)
