So I’ve noticed that on a number of articles in the category for putty, dough and slime
, we have a lot of articles that list the required materials for the slime (or putty, or whatever - I’ll just use slime as a catch-all here) in the Ingredients section at the start of the article.
I understand why someone would place it at the start of the articles, but my understanding was that Ingredients is only for edible food objects. A lot of our slime recipes don’t involve edible food objects - I’m pretty sure we’re not supposed to eat things like borax, shampoo, glue, or toothpaste. We don’t put “blender” or “large bowl” in the Ingredients section when it comes to recipe articles, either, so I’m a little stuck on why we’d put non-food objects in Ingredients on the slime articles.
That being said, I know we have a fair amount of slime articles that follow this trend, and I understand why someone would do this, so I wanted to get some input from other editors here. When it comes to slime “recipes”, should the “ingredients” for the slime go under an Ingredients section, or the Things You’ll Need section?

The “food only” is not a strict rule, just a convenient one. There are definitely some other topics that are read as a “recipe”, such as handmade cosmetics and “bath recipes”. I’ve never applied it absolutely as I think we need to be mindful of the nuances where some non-food topics do still have a recipe-style approach. It’s not many but works for some non-food topics. I don’t think we need to be overly worried about exactitude on placement of those ingredients for slime recipes, where food-like ingredients can be listed as ingredients and the things like saucepans and jars as things you’ll need. I hope this helps to answer your query.
Here’s my personal opinion. I tend to things that could also be food ingredients of other recipes into the “Ingredients” section, regardless of what type of slime recipe this is being used for, and all the other knick-knacks in Things You’ll Need. But that’s only my thoughts.
