Now that I’m back from maternity leave, the biggest item looming on my to-do list is getting the ball rolling on 2018 Meetup planning… Yikes! As always, I’m looking forward to seeing all you wikiFolks in person - and meeting some of you for the first time:slight_smile:

We already know the meetup is going to be May 18-20 in Minneapolis, at the Graduate Minneapolis hotel (recently renamed from The Commons) - https://www.graduatehotels.com/minneapolis/

I’m going to try to put together a list of current active/engaged contributors in the next week or two, with invitations to go out via email after that. Invitations generally work on a rolling basis, until our booked rooms fill up. Our process for finding active folks isn’t perfect, though (particularly if you’re more of a tool user/voter), so it’s always possible I’ll miss some people. If you’re active with the project and interested in coming but think you might fly under the radar, please just make sure I know you’re interested! You can shoot me an email at anna@wikihow.com .

This would also be a great time to start gathering more ideas for activities and discussion topics, if anyone has suggestions. Bonus points if you’re familiar with Minneapolis and have ideas for outings! Feel free to share on this post, and throw your ideas up here, too: http://www.wikihow.com/wikiHow:Meetups

Hoping we get a rad crowd together this year, as in years past… it’s the people who really make the weekend one to remember:slight_smile:

Thanks for the reminder. May will be here before we know it! For those who haven’t attended a meetup before and are contemplating attending, you should definitely consider it! You might have fears about not knowing anyone or feeling uncomfortable, but it’s really a fun group of people every year and I know you’ll be welcomed with open arms. Heck, I can assure you that Jack, Anna, and I will even give you a hug, but I don’t want to speak for anyone else. ;p I can’t wait to see everyone again!

Eric is correct, if I can get from one end of the Earth to the other to meet people I’ve only ever ‘‘spoken’’ to on a wiki shows it is worth it.  Everyone is lovely and we all have a wonderful time exchanging ideas and some of our wiki stories.  Oh and @Eric , I’ll be first in line for that hug!

I would love to go! My mom would too. I’m always happy to take some time off school for you all.

I would also hug you <3

@Anna How’s your wikiBreak? Anything special in that period of time? For we people who either lived in a far-off country or is too young to have permission to join (for me I’m both), we look forward to hear the good tidings and stories!

I can’t wait to meet everyone again:slight_smile:Last year was amazing, can’t wait to do it again:smiley:

I look forward to seeing you too, @Lutherus-Shyrilser !

Me too, it is my goal to the fact when I registered in this forum.

@SarahB What’s all this about lining up? Clearly this calls for a group hug:smiley:

Ok, for anyone new who’s interested in attending, don’t worry - we don’t really make anyone group hug, hah. But does anyone have any questions about the meetup or what happens there or how it all works? We’ll fill you in, if so!

You can also check out last year’s meetup post for a sense of how much fun that was:  https://forums.wikihow.com/discussion/23459/hello-from-st-louis-wikihow-community-meetup-2017/p1 - good times all around, and a great chance to connect with other wikiHowians, collaborate, kick back, and discuss all things wiki:slight_smile:

This all sounds so fun! Update us with pictures once it happens :D

Looks awesome! Hopefully, I can get back into wikiHowing soon to be able to attend the meetup:slight_smile:

I have a question! Will I be the only person with dyed hair or can I convince someone to have green hair this year? >

@ Galactic Radiance well I could consider it - anything is better than grey!

@ Anna I need to get my passport renewed and another US visa!

@Galactic-Radiance I hear @Eric is dying for a new hairdo!

@SarahB Chop chop, get that sorted! Anyone else looking to travel internationally, please make sure your documents are up to date, too:slight_smile:

Can also confirm. I’m not big on crowds but this was a loving group of weir- lovely people. :P

@Galactic-Radiance If I go this year I would totally be down for that but sadly my job would not like this one bit! Let’s all nominate @eric for the hairdo!

I dye mine regularly… to cover the grey.  Not looking for anything other than my natural light brown / tending a bit toward blonde though.  Sorry!

What about finding clip in hair extensions that anyone could add to their “do”?

For example:

… This is brilliant - thank you, Lois! (I never use extensions since my hair is so short.) If I brought those to the meetup, would people be willing to use them?

Hah, I’m in to try a green hair clip! It’ll match my wikiHow shirt, after all.
