I think that the category ‘Zen Buddhism,’ should be edited to simply ‘Zen.’ Since it is subcategory of ‘Buddhism,’ it’s not necessary to have the word Buddhism, in the title. Neither ‘Catholicism’ nor ‘Mormonism’ have the word ‘Christianity’ included in their titles, because they are under the category of Christianity. So why should Zen be any different?

Mmm… agreed!

Thanks IcicIe990, for backing me up here. So how about it, guys…?

Well, Zen is referred to interchangeably as “Zen” and “Zen Buddhism”, e.g. https://www.facebook.com/ZenBuddhism , whereas nobody would say Catholic Christianity or Protestant Christianity (at least I’ve never heard it). This naming convention also occurs with other sects of Buddhism, such as Mahayana Buddhism. So imo it’s fine as it is, but happy to change it if someone feels strongly that it is necessary.

Yes, I feel that it should be changed to simply ‘Zen.’ Since it is under the title of ‘Buddhism,’ it is obvious that it has to do with Buddhism. BTW, some people(myself included) do say ‘Catholic Christianity,’ or ‘Protestant Christianity.’ Thanks.

There are even a couple of FB groups which are called ‘Catholic Christianity,’ & ‘Catholic Christianity II.’

Well, I’m not been offensive or anything, it is better to change it to zen but it doesn’t have to right? I mean, it saves space.

The term “Zen” technically does not 100% relate to religion (unlike Christianity), depending on the context and if it’s being used as an adjective or a noun. Attaching “Buddhism” clarifies/specifies the terminology. You have things such as 3 Ways to Create a Zen Bedroom - wikiHow Life and How to Create a Zen Garden: 7 Steps (with Pictures) - wikiHow (which actually should be in Gardening, not Religion).

Even if it’s changed to Zen or left alone, “space” wouldn’t change at all.

Thing is, Maluniu, it’s under the category of ‘Buddhism.’ The reference to the particular subcategory is pretty clear. Besides, even in terms such as “Bedroom,” etc., it is loosely referencing the sect. Sort of like when we describe something as “Puritanical,” it was originally inspired by the Puritan group. If & when there is a subcategory called “Tibetan Buddhism,” I could understand adding on the “Buddhism” part, as being “Tibetan” can refer to either the Buddhist sect OR the nationality(The Buddhist sect isn’t even Tibet’s only religion: Tibetans can also belong to the Bon religion). Should there ever be a subcategory for Christianity for the Orthodox denomination, it should be called “Orthodox Christianity,” in order to distinct it from “Orthodox Judaism,” (For if & when that subcategory is made) or any other religion which includes “Orthodox” in the title. I also understand the other Buddhist subcategory “Buddhist Meditation” including the word “Buddhist” in it, to distinguish it from other subcategories which contain “Meditation” in it. But, the Zen subcategory, there is no need for “Buddhism” to be included in the title.

BTW, I added the Zen Gardening article into the Gardening category(though I’m still keeping in the Zen one too), as per Maluniu’s suggestion.

So how about it, Guys? Can we please edit the name of the subcategory? The “Buddhism” part just isn’t necessary.

Because it was felt like it was strongly necessary,, http://www.wikihow.com/Category:Zen
