Hi! It bothers me that as of 8/8, we have 451,125 requests to be answered and only 119,277 articles written. I know that a lot of the requests are duplicates or have bad titles, and we need people to sort through these requests and delete the bad ones. But, at the same time, we need lots more people to answer requests. I want to start a request rally, but I don’t know how. Does anyone want to help?

My Request Guardian idea is still trying to gain followers. In the meantime, we can only trust that other authors will continue to write articles based on requests. I agree with you. If you can get support for my idea, I will help you start the rally. We are working for the same cause here. http://forums.wikihow.com/discussion/1936/new-tool-idea-request-guardian

This is a tough one, since answering requests usually requires research. When I answer a request, it takes me at least an hour to research enough information to make a decent article. Some people are better at it than others, some people enjoy it more than others. I can understand the frustration with the stormy weather though. Maybe we can adjust that widget to show a weekly goal or monthly goal. What do you think is a good goal to start with? 50 requests per week?

make mediawiki auto-calculate a goal, like 15% more requests answered than last week or so:slight_smile:

Jirachi, do you have a few titles from the request list which you would like to bring to our attention? http://www.wikihow.com/Special:ListRequestedTopics sudoking, that sounds like a good plan.

One idea is to do barnraisings where you live, particularly if there’s a local wiki meetup. I did a research day at the Boston Public Library with the Boston Wikipedia Meetup and I’m sure similar things could be done for wikiHow, especially if you choose a category to focus on. If you don’t know if there’s a wiki meetup in your area, leave a message on my talkpage and I can help you out.

Wow, that is a great idea, Elocina. This would be for wiki people, yes? I wonder if it might also work with any other group. As long as there was a room with computer access, or a cafe offering wireless, and a few members with laptops, one might arrange for a garden club to have an evening exploring and working on the gardening articles at wikiHow, for example. This could also be done with a camera club or a stamp collecting club, or any number of other interests. These clubs are always looking for new and different programs, so a wikiHow night might make a cool meeting topic.

It could be for wiki people or other groups. I was thinking students, but a hobbyist group is a great idea. I know there are some preexisting hobbyist groups at my local library and maybe I could ask them. I know that at one point the Portland wiki meetup did do a barnraising for wikiHow.
