I typed in wikihow.com then a pop up came up when I opened wikiHow and it said: “press this button to verify you’re a human.” I pressed it then it said to download safe-lock as an extension. I said no but it won’t let me go on to wikiHow until I closed the tab and opened it. Was this extension a sponsor of wikiHow?

Hey @Reem-Kam - I’m not familiar with anything called Safelock so I don’t think so. Can you take a screenshot of what you’re seeing? Are you sure it wasn’t Search Lock? There’s an icky browser redirect virus out there with that name. That wouldn’t be anything to do with wikiHow itself, but might be lurking on your browser and causing havoc with various sites. There are various guides out there to help with removing it, if that’s the problem. I haven’t tried this one, but for example https://malwaretips.com/blogs/remove-searchlock-virus/

It only came up once. I think it is safe lock but you may be right. It redirected me to the Google webstore and said to download something.

Definitely be careful with that - never download anything if you’re not sure what it is. If you see it again, snagging a screenshot would be super helpful.

Ok!

Cool, thanks. I’ll close this for now since it seems like it’s more of a one-off or an issue with your browser, but feel free to email or talk page me with that screenshot if it happens again, and we’ll go from there:slight_smile:
