Hey I’m back from the dead,

At the moment, the @wikiHow Twitter handle’s background is this thingy-babobby:

The issue for me is that the typography and style doesn’t reflect the ever-changing, modern-technology based environment of wikiHow. Something that better reflects the projects mission and doesn’t advertise certain articles might help bring us/wikiHow more traction on Twitter.

Thoughts?

I’ll ping @TuckerB to get his thoughts!

I don’t see how this advertises certain articles? Especially given the fact that quite a few pages wind up with reused images and some of the images in there wouldn’t be easy to find because we have no clue what page they’re from…

I can’t think of that many articles that have a picture of a guy with a six-pack working out short from get a six-pack. The images are more closely related to specific articles based on their exposure (Featured Article, Rising Star (Legit, I’m going to just call it Star so it doesn’t confuse me), Popular) are going to be affiliated with that.

If you have an image that is heavily affiliated with a specific article, regardless of if another article has that image, the most affiliated article will always be most prominent because we connect that image to that article

My guess is that most people who use wikiHow aren’t around the site as much as the active wikiHowians are and may not even recognize the images to begin with. Heck, I’ve been around here for almost two years and only recognize maybe four of those images. Given that most of the people who use the site don’t contribute on a regular basis, I really doubt they’re going to recognize the images and/or feel like certain articles are being advertised:slight_smile:

Hey @ItsPugle ! Thanks for the suggestion - I know that graphics that you spend a long time looking at can easily begin to look stale. As @Galactic-Radiance pointed out, though, most folks who end up on that page are seeing that banner for the first time and won’t know what articles each image is affiliated with.

It’s possible that in the future we’ll want to change the banner if it begins to strongly misrepresent wikiHow’s content or brand image, but as it stands, those are images from articles that people come to wikiHow to read, and the image styles do represent an aesthetic that’s easily attributable to wikiHow. As such, our designers are pretty happy with the banner and don’t have current plans to change it. If this changes, though, I’ll let you know - and will definitely pass on the recommendation of switching up the genre of articles that are represented in the chosen images for their consideration:slight_smile:

Cheres @TuckerB . The main thing, I guess, for me was just the typography doesn’t seem wikiHow-y to me, but I mean, if your designers are all good with it, then so am I!

The typography is nice and gives us something different to see.

This banner is too old and not looking good:frowning:Also, wikiHow contains 190,000+ articles now.
