When I passed 500 edits patrolled, I thought it was a big milestone for me. One month later, I’m thinking of welcoming new users to WikiHow from time to time and I would like some help on how to do that – any tips?

  1. Just keep it as personalised as possible, and refrain from using any templates. 2) If they ask you a question and you can’t answer it, redirect the user to an admin.

How do I do that?

You can link them to the page of the list of admins on the site, if you wish.

@Hasbeen400 Congrats on the patrolling milestone! As for welcoming new users, check out http://m.wikihow.com/Welcome-New-wikiHow-Users I’m so glad you’re interested in welcoming!

Is that really necessary?

  1. Adopt an aggressively friendly and welcoming tone. 2. Assume good faith. 3. Educate the new users so they can become independant, product users. 4. Try to stay away from templates. 5. Have fun. After all, you’re talking to a potential wikiFriend:smiley:

This is good advice!

Also, maybe if you don’t already have access to the Welcom Wagon tool, you could take the test for that! If you already do, sorry I didn’t know!

He doesn’t have access to the welcome wagon tool, however that tool isn’t for teaching someone how to welcome. He should have a better knowledge and further experience with welcoming before attempting to get access to the tool.

Best advice (since I’m a welcomer now) would be to read http://www.wikihow.com/Use-the-Welcome-Wagon-Tool-on-wikiHow and then you might know a bit more about this, then after you have had a bit more experience maybe do the test and see how you do?

Yes, I think you should read that before taking the test:slight_smile:
