Too many people are abusing sex NFD. It is meant for articles that a sexual explicit. People seem to nominate articles for deletion about anything to do with boobs or sex. Articles about sex seem to offend our writers more than our readers. If an article that deserves to be deleted because it is actually sexually explicit it should go under mean spirited activity.

Let’s not remove that NFD reason. I don’t want to open the door to becoming an explicit sex site. There’s already wiki-after-dark for that… and while we don’t allow kids under 13? I’d still like to retain the “family friendliness” vibe of our site. These things come in waves… and the nfd sex craze will pass once a few… erm… sex obsessed? no. um… prudish? no. Um… editors who are not comfortable with the thought of wikiHow containing instructions for communicating pleasure and affection while less than fully clothed … yeah, that’s better… have finally tagged and lost the nfd fight on anything remotely sexual on the site. On the down side? It’s irritating in the short term to see yet ANOTHER discussion about sex in the forums, on the talk pages, or wherever. Enough already! On the up side? The number of remotely sexual articles is finite… and we’ll get to all of them eventually. And once those NFD’s are rejected? Those articles will then be safe from the nfd/sex vote going forward.

I agree with the above comment. There can be articles that need to be NFD’d for this reason. If it was removed, what would it be NFD’d for?
Thanks Lois for stating it so well. I had forgotten about wiki after dark but there is a wiki that deals with these things. wikiHow does not need to repeat sexually charged articles as there is a wiki designed for that purpose.

You do realise that by removing nfd|sex, we’re allowing people to post blatant porn on wikiHow? Strong no from me.

If we did this I bet you 1/8 of the content would be about topics based on sex. I understand the fact that you can’t make an account if you are under 13, but people under still view it! I mean, this is the age of technology! You can’t count on parents to view their history every night. Besides the fact of in being explicit. This site would be DESTROYED by vandalism. WikiHow would cripple in a matter of months.
No. Quite frankly, doing this would be crazy. If you did the amount of patrolling I have done, you would probably understand why. (I’m actually taking a break from patrolling at the moment, since I’ve been somewhat worn down by dealing with that stuff all the time.) If we did as you proposed, people could post any sort of explicit material they wished, and we would have no policy based way to get rid of it.

Wiki After Dark does not exist and I am not saying that we should be come a porn site. I am saying I think the sex reason is incorrectly worded. We have lots of articles about sex here which all of them fit in the deletion criteria. Instead of sex as the reason, it should be if the are obscene. Articles about sex are fine, but if they are obscene they should be deleted. And Lois I am so sick of people talking about sex in the forums as well. People see an article about boobs and immediately think the article should get deleted.

@HaileyGirges
Articles about sex are fine on wikiHow, so sex should not be a reason. To answer your question the reason should be if the article is obscene.

Acually, they are not. Any article based of off sex is not allowed on WikiHow.

We actually allow a surprising amount of articles based sex. Just search ‘sex’ on wikiHow.

Just because there is a lot of articles about that topic doesn’t mean we should remove the NFD. Some articles have information about sex that are not needed, meant for vandalism, etc.
+1. Yes. We would be allowing people to post all the porn they want by removing this reason.

This is completely over-sensational and, quite frankly, wrong. Even with this particular NFD criteria, we see very little “porn.” Having or not having the NFD criteria itself does not prevent people from posting inappropriate stuff, so there is no basis for a ridiculously sensational claim that wikiHow would be “full of nothing but porn.” Having said that, I do not think we should remove the criteria from the deletion policy—not because we’d be “reported and sued,” (which is another outrageous claim and assumption), but because we are a professional site with a decent reputation.
