Whenever I look around some new contributors, I see most with a WelcomeBot message straight at the top of their talk page.  However, some are not welcomed by the bot and the page is empty.

Why does this happen?

This happens in a few known cases - for example, when they started their account on an international site, or occasionally if the account creation was from an older social media sign-in (If I recall correctly, we fixed a bug around that a few months back). I also believe the system just glitches out sometimes - it’s hard to pin down or reproduce, though, so can’t say for sure! It works more often than it doesn’t… but if you see someone who didn’t get a message, feel free to drop them a personal welcome:slight_smile:

Of course I will!

Feel free to close this thread.

Also worth noting - if you can’t give them a personal welcome quite yet (for example, they have no contributions to comment on), there’s always the {{welcome}} template. It’s pretty similar (although not identical) to the WelcomeBot note.

Oh, I’m aware of that template already.

And the {{Welcome2}} template which is more elaborate.
