Today I apparently welcomed a new user without my knowledge. The user was Quanit, and I don’t think I was even at my computer at the time at which it was posted. Is this some feature of being a booster that I didn’t know about, or did someone hack my account?

Oh, the system leaves welcomebot messages from admins and boosters. This is totally normal! It used to be that the last person to edit wikiHow who has a booster or admin would leave a lot of the welcomebot messages, but now it’s a little less time sensitive, so you may see messages left a little bit after you’ve been using the computer. If you don’t like this, just un check the welcome messages in your preference bot.
Okay.
I thought the welcomebot only left messages from welcomers.

Nope! The welcomewagon is completely different.
It gives you access to a new app in which you can welcome new editors individually with hand written responses.
