Whenever someone joins, I try to welcome them but someone has already posted! Is this a coincidence?
No, it’s not a coincidence…it’s the welcome tool. It automatically chooses the last active admin/NABer and welcomes new users under their name
Yup, it’s an atoumatic bot.
But I still welcome people,.it’s a good way to spread the “wikiLove”! :D. June Days

You can still welcome people
Just please don’t use templates or “canned” messages. Leave that to the bot, we humans are capable of much higher levels of welcoming, so focus on writing a personal note - one that says a specific, nice thing about their contributions, so that they know you care
^ Yeah, I sometimes leave personal messages letting the new user who I am, what i do here, thanking them that they joined, and any other helpful information they might need, along with the usual, “Let me know if you need any help with anything!” note.
It just a nice way to say hello and maybe make a new friend! ~Maddie
Yeah! Like @June
Days said, I still welcome people, but I don’t copy and paste. I say something like: Hey wikihowexample I hope you are enjoying your time at wikiHow so far, if you have any questions, ask me, an admin, or The Help Team.
Serena. Yeah, It’s WikiLurvvvveee!
One way to welcome people is through social networking like Facebook and Twitter and through e-mail like Yahoo and Gmail.
That’s a pretty neat thought, actually.
Is it possible to welcome new users that are un-welcomed? Like adding your name to the bot or something?

Oh, now I understand. Thanks so much!
(unless you’ve chosen in your Preferences not to have the tool use your account)
We all need to take care, though, to not confuse new users when welcoming them (for the second time). Additionally, it’s really important that if you’re a newer user leaving messages promising to answer questions for our newest users that you’re positive you know how to answer those questions. Finally, it’s good to check these messages like bazillions of times over because frankly if I were a new user receiving a message with typos, or bad grammar, or that sounded totally awkward, I might be turned off of wikiHow.
Closing thread. Original question was answered. Please don’t bump.
