Welcome to the latest wikiHaus Lab update! Here’s what’s happening for Aug 31st:
What’s happening?Continuing to expand our quiz library and potential: We are looking to expand the intra-article quizzes (where the first question of a quiz comes up in an article and if you answer it you’re taken to the quiz). We’ve also added a follow-up question to lead people who complete a quiz to go to another quiz, and are looking to expand into other styles of quizzes, like trivia and image-based quizzes. Do you have any other ideas for quizzes?
What’s happening?Continuing to expand User Journeys, so look out for more of these coming soon!
What’s happening?The team is working on updates for accessibility and readability. This could be quite a big project, but you may see things like alt-text for images on articles moving forward.
What’s happening?Testing interest in an article chatbox. This is just a small test where the team is seeing whether readers might be interested in a ChatGPT-powered chatbox that helps them answer questions from the article that they’re reading. It’s not actually functional and currently only on 50 articles logged out, but you can get an idea of the test on this article:
What’s happening?The team has been testing changing the location of the Related wikiHows / You might Also Like section to directly below the steps and it’s getting a great response. They’re going to let the test run longer, but this move could potentially be implemented on all articles coming up. Check out one of the articles in the test group here: How to Fake a Fever (with Pictures) - wikiHow

Can you remind me what “User Journeys” are?
Also, I didn’t see anything (in incognito, signed out) on that test article related to a ChatGPT-powered chat box. Can you post a screenshot of what we should be seeing?

I think alt text is a great idea! I was actually thinking about that a while ago. I’m glad changes are being made to make wikiHow more accessible.

@Eric
Great question! User Journeys are where we have a group of articles that fit together and we recommend the reader go to another in the series once they’ve read one. We had a widget, then a banner, and now I see this version:
And for the chatbox, you have to scroll a fair way down the article for it to pop up, but it should be a little widget in the corner:

Ahh, the ChatGPT widget must only be on desktop (does anyone still access the wiki via desktop
)!
I’d love to see user-created quizzes from admins and boosters, or a wider variety of quizzes instead of the more pop-culture oriented ones now. (nothing wrong with them ofc I just think it would be nice if we had more types of quizzes instead of WRM focusing on fun quizzes)
desktop is my primary way of editing. i cant do much on my mobile - let alone type clearly.

I was mainly referring to readers, not editors! But yes, editing is definitely easier on desktop!
