Welcome to the wikiHaus Lab update! Here’s what new for July 15th:

:rocket: What’s happening? We are working on changing the course banner on articles to show 3 related articles instead. These will be pulled from the related wikiHow section. This will be implemented on 25% of pages in the relationships category first to see how it goes.
:mag: Who’s working on it?Scott is working on implementing this.
:dart: What’s the goal of this? This is a new initiative aiming to keep readers on wikiHow longer! Having related articles throughout the article may help readers find other articles that they might be interested in more easily. If you have any other suggestions on how we can get readers to stay engaged and check out more pages on wikiHow, we’d love to hear them!

:rocket: What’s happening? We’re getting a new newsletter signup page. On this page, you’ll be able to sign up for any or all of our newsletters in one place. Get a sneak peek of the draft here .
:mag: Who’s working on it?Gaurang is working on creating this page.
:dart: What’s the goal of this?Condensing and making the sign-up process super simple and easy.

:rocket: You may have noticed:We have a new Relationships page up! Check it out here: https://www.wikihow.com/Category/Relationships

I have a question. If I’m already signed up for some of them, do I need to sign up for the others individually, or will the page update my subscription?

Also, I noticed that the “__List __” magic word was added to allow articles to be turned into list articles. Thank you to whoever added that.:grinning:

If you want to add any different newsletters to what you’re already getting, then yes, you’ll just need to sign up for any you’re not already receiving.

YAY! for the List magic word - I didn’t realize Gaurang had finished figuring that out. Must be time to start working on a How To for list articles and some Boosting criteria. Watch this space…

I’m curious - if the Relationships page goes over well with readers, could we assemble something like that for other categories or subsets of articles? Like the ADHD or autism topics, for example?

listen, I’m still bitter over Google screwing us over and we need to promote the neurodiversity agenda somehow

It looks like the courses program has really taken off!

I regularly process Special:BrokenRedirects and have been skipping the course video links, as per staff request. I haven’t noticed any activity on these links, so I’d like to know if we should continue to skip these or if they’re fair game to remove at this point?

@anon74718567 I like that idea, and am hopeful that down the line that could be possible! Of course, that could be some time away, but filing the idea!

@Zygomatt great question, I’ll check in with the appropriate team and get back to you on that!

Wow!:astonished:Nice idea! Honestly, sometimes, it’s hard to find four appropriate related articles, and this is great! I support three related wikiHows!:+1:

Wow!:astonished:Wonderful! I am looking forward for this! Great! You know, the thing is, I want to subscribe to newsletters, because I like reading article and getting to know more. (But I don’t keep searching wikiHow every week for high-quality articles like the ones in newsletters. I do so only when I’m looking for help; not because I want to know more…) And newsletters are kind of, an invitation to come and read. But I’m not quite interested in stuff other than Tech-related things, so this is exactly what I need! A great idea! I support this too!:+1:

If the email notification comes with a form for a testimonial, I think people won’t mind writing a line or two after reading those articles. Or may be just submitting an emoji from our list:slightly_frowning_face::thinking::slightly_smiling_face:based on their experience after reading and/ or trying the steps.

Also, if there was an option for testimonial writers to put their profile picture, that might make it more fun and interactive. There can be n number of interesting options in their email. Even a search option to quickly search another topic they felt like reading.

Cool work Scott and Gaurang.

@Zygomatt I didn’t forget about this - we’ve been working in the background to find a fix! Though it’s best not to mess with these pages from an Eng standpoint, Aaron was able to add a setting in our preferences to hide them from view - so you can select “ Hide valid Watch/ pages from Special:BrokenRedirects ” in your wikiHow prefs here . It does still show one on the page, but apparently that is a broken link, so they’re working on fixing that one:slight_smile:
