How to get rid of weed smell from a room?

I smoke marijuana to help with sleep but my parents are coming to visit next week. They’d probably be cool with it, but I just don’t feel like answering their questions or dealing with it, ya know? I thought I did a good job getting rid of the smell by opening the windows for a few days, but two of my friends commented that they can still smell the weed. Does anyone have any hacks here? I really want to get rid of the smell of weed in my room and car before they show up.

It is a difficult smell to get rid of, for sure. At it's core, weed is a plant, and if you smoke any plant, it's going to smell. After airing out your space as much as possible, I'd recommend lighting incense and other scented products that can try to counteract the smell. Full disclosure, though – I don't know of a specific product that fully can eliminate the smell of cannabis smoke.

If you're going to smoke in the meantime before their visit, I would recommend going outside if you're going to smoke. You should also look into other consumption methods if you don't want your space to smell in future. Smoking flower will be the most stinky of the methods, so I'd recommend a vaporizer, dabbing or, of course, edibles, which don't smell at all. Alternatively, people sometimes use what we call the "sploof". Essentially, a sploof is where you take some sort of cylindrical object (even something like a toilet paper roll would work) and you stuff it with detergent sheets, laundry detergent sheets, and you'd blow the smoke through it so that it doesn't make your room smelly. There are modern versions of this that are small and portable, so that's one thing you can look into as a preventative thing.

I used to rub dryer sheets on everything and also put dryer sheets on the back of a fan and run it until my room smells fresh

It's a pain in the butt but if you really wanna get the weed smell out you have to do a deep clean of your whole room (or even your whole house, if you smoke everywhere). My tip is to use a degreaser like Pine Sol or Zep to wash all your fabrics because the smell sticks around in the form of an oily film, which degreaser works well on.

If you want a more extreme solution you can try burning popcorn in your room. Burnt popcorn is like the trump card of smells. Your room won't smell like weed anymore because the smell of burnt popcorn will be so strong. Caution: the smell WILL linger for months.

To start, you should find and eliminate any remnants of the joint. If you leave any of it in an ashtray or trash can, that can make the room smell more. After you get rid of it, consider washing anything fabric-y like your bedsheets or jackets you hang up in your room, wash your upholstery, and deodorize your carpet and rugs. The stench tends to cling to things that are made out of fabric.

I’ve heard all kinds of tricks and hacks for this over the years, but for me, it’s really just a time thing if you’ve been smoking regularly. Opening the windows, lighting candles, burning incense, and running the fans will help dissipate it over time. But you mentioned you’re in a bit of a time pinch, so here’s my advice. First, try boiling some white vinegar. You can add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to help make the room smell better if you’d like. Vinegar is a natural deodorizer, and boiling it will send those vinegar particles into the air where they’ll absorb the marijuana terpenes. Do that a few times with the windows open and you should be golden!
