About the True Colors Personality Test
The True Colors personality system is a simplification of other personality tests and assessments, like the Myers-Briggs test and the Keirsey Please Understand Me temperament test, which are both often used in psychology to help people and patients to better understand themselves and how they personally think and act.
Don Lowry, who developed the True Colors system, was actually a student of David Keirsy. Lowry wanted a system that was easier to understand, remember, and apply than other tests, so he formulated personality categories based off of four main colors, with each color describing a set of personality traits:
Orange:
Spontaneous, risk-taking, optimistic, generous, free-spirited
Green:
Logical, innovative, curious, intellectual, deep-thinking, analytical
Blue:
Social, empathetic, collaborative, expressive, adaptable, idealistic
Gold:
Loyal, dutiful, balanced, stable, organized, responsible, authoritative
Everyone is a mix of each color, and nobody is ever pigeonholed into being just one thing. That said, most people tend to have a dominant color that they most identify with, and by pinpointing that color in ourselves, Lowry hopes that we can find our strengths and what makes us special and valuable, then bring those strengths to our families, friends, and communities.
