What to do when your hometown is missing from Facebook

Facebook maintains a huge list of cities and other places around the world. You use these locations to add your hometown to your profile. But what if your city isn't one of the available places on Facebook? While you can't create a hometown yourself, you can ask Facebook to add it for you. Read on to learn how to create a hometown on Facebook and add it to your profile.

- Open Facebook.
- Tap the menu icon and select Help & support .
- Tap Report a problem .
- Select Profile and write your request for a hometown addition.
- Tap the "Send" icon.

Tap the menu button in the Facebook app. It's on the leftmost part of the header on Android, and at the bottom on iPhone & iPad. A menu will expand.

Tap Help & support . This will expand the menu. If it's already expanded, skip this step.Advertisement

Tap Report a problem . A small window with problem types will pop up.
- If you have "Shake phone to report a problem" enabled, you'll see a pop-up window to shake your phone on the page where you're having trouble. Tap Continue to report a problem to move on with requesting your hometown addition.
- Tap Don't include to avoid sending your logs with your report. Since you're requesting to add a location, your logs and data aren't necessary to include.

Select Profile . You'll be directed to a "Send report" page.

Ask Facebook to add your city. Type your request for hometown creation in the field provided, and provide as much detail and references as possible to help Facebook work on your request better.

Send the request. Once done, tap the “Send” button at the top right corner of the form (it might look like a paper airplane). Your request will be sent to Facebook. It’s now up to Facebook to decide and add your hometown to the list.

Navigate to "Help & support" on Facebook. Go to https://facebook.com and sign in, then click your profile picture and select "Help & support" from the menu that drops down.

Click Report a Problem . You will be asked to choose between “Send Feedback” or “Report a Problem.”

Click Help us improve Facebook . Another window will pop up; click Don't include in Report since you're requesting a new location.

Ask Facebook to add your city. Follow these tips on filling out the "Help us improve Facebook" form:
- Choose an area - Select Profile .
- Details - Write "My hometown is not on the list. I need help creating and adding my hometown of Xampleton, Washington."
- Click the Submit button on the bottom of the form to send it. It’s now up to Facebook to decide and add your hometown to the list.

Tap the circled person icon in the Facebook app. If your city is available on Facebook, you can use this method to change your hometown to that city on your profile. Tapping it will bring you to your profile page.
- Alternatively, tap your profile picture on the left next to "What's on your mind?" to go to your profile.

Tap Edit profile . It's next to a pencil icon under your cover photo.

Tap Edit next to the "Details" section. You'll have to scroll down to find this section.

Tap Add hometown . It's under the "Hometown" section.

Enter the city and state of your hometown. You will see a drop-down list of available locations when you're typing.

Select a hometown. Tap one from the list that matches your hometown; if nothing appears and you see "No results found," the location is not available, and you need to enter a new location. Pick a nearby town.

Select an audience. Once you pick a hometown, people viewing your profile may or may not see that information, depending on your selected audience.
- If you don't want anyone to see this information, select Only Me .

Tap Save . It's at the bottom of your screen and will save your hometown information.
- Another window will pop up, asking if you want to share the hometown change on your Facebook Feed. Tap Share to post the change or tap the X to close the window without sharing. [1] X Research source

Go to your Facebook profile. If your city is available on Facebook, you can use this method to change your hometown to that city on your profile. Once you log into Facebook, click your profile picture and name on the left side of your web browser.

Click About . It's in the row of tabs under your profile name with Posts , Friends and Likes .

Click Add hometown . You'll see this under your current location, if you added that.

Enter a location. If you see "No locations to show," that location is not available. Pick a nearby town or request for your hometown to be added.

Select your hometown and click Save . Pick a location from the drop-down menu and set the privacy of this information.
- For example, if you want the public to see your hometown, pick Public from the audience list.
