Having trouble defeating Phantom Ganon, the boss of the Forest Temple, in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time? Well, here's a guide that'll help you defeat this tough boss.

  1. In the first part of the battle, Phantom Ganon will go into one of the six paintings in the arena, and two replicas of him will come out of two paintings. The real one is lighter than the fake one, and a purple vortex will appear as it comes out. Hit this one with an arrow (you can also use the Hookshot, but this is slower than using arrows). Should you not hit him fast enough, go to one of the Triforce images at each corner of the platform to avoid his electric ball attack, which he hits the center of the arena with (works best firing right as he pops out and the vortex appears).

  2. Use your sword to hit the energy ball back. He'll hit it back; repeat this process until he's hit with his energy ball. You can also use an empty bottle to hit the energy ball back.
  3. When you've damaged him a few times, he'll sometimes do another attack where he charges at you. Avoid this attack, as it does three hearts of damage. You'll know he will do the attack when he twirls his staff around a few times and lets off small magic sparks with it.

The horse portions takes three hits, for the second phase it took me 6 jump slashes and 4 swings to kill him. Overall, it took me 2 attempts and 13 hits to beat him (I'd recommend getting a seventh heart before the forest temple)

      Tips

      • Have at least one bottled fairy and a red or blue potion. A bottled fairy revives you if you die, while the red or blue potions restore your health. You can also use Lon Lon Milk if you have it.
      • After he's stunned, use a jump attack instead of regular slashes, as jump attacks do more damage.
      • If you're close enough to him during the second part of the battle when you hit the energy ball back, he won't have enough time to react and will be hit by it, so you won't have to hit it back again. Beware, though, as standing too close will give you little time to hit it back yourself, which may make you get hit by it!
