Jumping in Dark Souls can only be accomplished when your character is running. The instructions for running and jumping vary slightly depending on whether you’re playing Dark Souls on the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 consoles.

- The distance your character can jump is determined by how fast you’re able to run, which in turn, is based on your equipment load. If the weight of your character’s equipment is less than 25 percent, your movement speed will not be reduced; however, equipment loads between 25 and 50 percent results in 25 percent speed reduction, loads between 50 and 75 percent result in 50 percent speed reduction, and loads between 75 and 100 percent result in 75 percent speed reduction. To jump in Dark Souls while playing on the Xbox 360, start by pointing the left joystick in the direction you want your character to move. As your character is moving, press and hold the “B” button on your controller to make your character run, since you can only jump while your character is running. Once your character starts running, release the “B” button, then quickly tap “B” again to make them jump.
