If the ripple you are talking about is from a power supply circuit (diode, unfiltered and unregulated), ripple frequencies in a power supply circuit cannot be tested with an ordinary multi-meter. You should use a dual or single trace oscilloscope. From the screen of the scope, you can see the waveform of the ripple frequency.
